Hi guys :)

I need new monitor for my grandad, he love to play cards on PC, something reading news on internet. But now his eyes seem getting worse :( So i thinking get nice big monitor for him but i got abit short cash at the moment. What type monitor should i look for? TFT? or LCD? Want nice smooth bright so he can read it properly.

I been mooch around on ebay, few things i found is in local so would be easy to check and pay it as we happy with it.

The Dell 2209 WA is about the cheapest monitor you will get that has an IPS panel in it (8 bit colour instead of 6 bit colour and much better viewing angles). If you are at all considering using this monitor for photo editing, you should stick to PVA or IPS panels instead of the cheaper (and less colour acurate) TN pannel.

It is easy to tell if a panel is TN or IPS/PVA. In the spec if it says the viewing angle is 178/178 then it is a IPS/PVA and you want that. If it says 170/170 or worse 170/160, the stay away. Stay far far away.

if he has a modern (flat screen) TV it's probably got a pooter input - take a look round the back!

If its not for photo editing, there are plenty of reasonably priced monitors out there. Go to a shop and you can get some idea of what they're like.
