Can anyone tell me what connection this is?

Yes
I am assuming this is a shutter release, it has a pushable button attached to a lead attached to this connector. Only thing is, I don't know what camera/s this connects to? It came as part of an auction lot.

Of course, if it isn't a shutter release then I am happy to stand correted.

Canon had something like that on the EOS600, but the pin configuration might have been different. It's a long time since I had that camera.

Thanks Ed, I'll start looking there.

UPDATE: So it is very similar except the EOS one has three pins where this one has three holes that would accept pins. Hmm!

I think it might be a Canon N3 connection for shutter release on the EOS 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 5D, 5Dmk2, 5Dmk3, 5Dmk4, 5DS, 6D, 7D, 7Dmk2 and all types of the 1D.

More research required.

Looks much too big for an N3 to me - especially the plug surround.
