Yes
Got my new D40 which is great but why oh why are instructions / and manuals so bloomin difficult to get?
All I wanted to do was save settings so that when i flip to sport it shoots continuous and when I flip to auto doesn't. I took me an hour to find the Mythical "done" button which is tucked away under a thing "csm menu"
Course it is!:cuckoo:
Then I find it saves the setting but to both sport and auto mode.
Except for the pictures of people running etc on the top dial could the manual be anymore evasive? ok so I have man flu and I've been up all day but even so I expected to be able to work it out.
Someone on here very kindly pointed me to the nikon tutorial but it still refers to things like" press done" without mentioning where it is.
How hard can it be to set two modes to have two different properties.?
And the likes of nikon and canon wonder why more people don't migrate from point and shoot people (like me) cos they are too daunted by the dslr's:cuckoo:
rant over. tea ready. lemsip locked loaded and ready to go.:D

no you cant have a rant.

oops too late you done it

Ranting at Xmas, whatever next.

Once you really learn to use your DSLR you won't be using full auto scene modes. Setting the iso and shutter speed yourself will give you more control than using a sports mode.

get well soon. I'm surrounded by illness so my turn will probably be over xmas :(

**** xmas, if a good rant makes you feel better, then rant away:D:D:D:D

I've not noticed much differences in style between the instruction manual of my Canon powershot compact and the 50D. Both assume a certain level of competence and understanding.

There are Magic Lantern guides for beginners or tutorial DVDs. I've also seen guides in WH Smith for things like 400D / D40 level cameras.

5/10. Call that a rant?

;)

Thats why I like the d200 and other higher level of slrs. You can set a lot of your own presets, you get four spaces to save certain settings. ABCD. If I am going out and shooting two projects, i.e. one b+w and one full colour I can set mode A to b+W and B to colour. Each can have its own iso, wb settings etc.

No auto modes on the d200 though!
