This week I am doing my weekly day out with my carer taking candid street shots of people, I am not 100% comfortable with just snapping away at folk in the street without asking each and everyone if its ok. Could there be any come backs on me if I post their images on here or on my photoblog site?

No is the easy answer, if someone confronts or asks what you're doing, tell them and show them, (if remember correctly you have a bloody big screen on your chair!!) you can delete if they wish but im sure it will be fine.

Good luck Julian.

Its the confrontation I don't want after the other week, put the frighteners on me:runaway:

Take the picture, move on.

If you hang around looking dodgy someone will approach you.

I wouldn't generally confront people as the poses will then appear more staged rahter than natural candid shots.

The few shots I've done, I generally just look around for interesting people, shoot them move on.

Sometimes, looking just above or to the side of them can work wonders too as they think you are shooting something beside or behind them.

If on the off change someone did approach me I'd simply offer to show them the pic and if requested I'd delete it from the card or send them a (watermarked) copy.

Good luck Julian and have fun out there!

Legally you can take a picture of anyone who is in a public space.

Adults, children, police - anyone.

I do quite a bit of street toggin and if i'm confronted i will always tell them why i 'Just took your photo'..it's my hobby..and then offer them a card with my details(email, web etc)and if they care to email me i will gladly send them a copy of the photo i took..usually works for me ;)

I cant even put the camera on the platform today, done something to my good arm, when I say good I mean best arm its the 1 that has all the metal work holding it together, if anyone is interested when me and lynton pass on u can weigh us both in for scrap titanium

if anyone took my photo i would object if i knew about it...but not expect anyone to object to me taking theirs...
i am a keen amateur photographer
they in most cases arent i suspect
i have some of a guy in ireland....really strong features and facial muscles...i wonder if i should show it...i could have asked him when i took it candidly...but bottled out

ho hum

Why would you object to someone taking your picture? You're a keen am-tog so you understand that people take photo's of things that inspire or reward their talent. You have pics of a guy... ? Why did you take them? What motivated you to press the shutter?

I've never done it myself but would do without fear if the moment came and I had my camera. ;)

Woah there Geoffrey. I never doubted your rights, we all have them

I was looking for your reasons as to why you would object to your picture being taken, yet not have any thought for someone else to have their picture taken?
I'm also confused with the line of you're a keen photographer, and they in most cases aren't, who are they? the subject being captured or the photographer?

A calm response would be nice, it's a forum for discussion after all.

Phil.
