Main thing to me is have the tracking sensitivity set to slow.
I've got a 13mb PDF from Canon which was made available to sports photographers on how to set up their AF functions.. bit too big to email but can pop it on my webspace?
Hi Phil i'd love to have a read through that. Where can I find your webspace?
I'll upload it now and post the link here for anyone else![]()
The AF tracking isn't actually how fast it follows an object, it is how quickly it changes to follow another object (say a referee passing between you and the player in question) - it is for this reason it is best set to slow!

Cheers Phil. That makes sense. What AF point do you use? and do you use AF expansion?
I have it set to slow for everything and on every camera I have had with the option, If set to fast and something passes between you and your target it will jump right to it.Why Slow for football?
Yes I had my mk2 set the same way.Would that apply for the mkII?
I use centre point usually (or use the joystick to move point if composition requires it - I don't understand why sports photographers want 50 odd points when we only ever use one at a time) and if I remember correctly have it set to surrounding points..

Thanks for that. i'll have a read through later.
Do you have any of your sports photography taken with the 1d3 on the internet?
