canon 60d owners thread

I thought I'll kick start this thread by discussing setup. Here is mine:

1. aluminium tripod. Bought this 5 years ago and it is excellent, with spirit level and hook for extra weight. Very easy to use and setup. I cannot remember the name but it is similar to this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Invero-Prof...U0/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1351318705&sr=8-12 looking for a small tripod for macro. undecided yet.

2. 4 bags. Yes 4 bags :)
a. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kata-CS-17-...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1351319718&sr=1-27

very good and strong. good for light travel.

b. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lowepro-Fli...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1351319825&sr=1-1
this is for long holidays. Huge space and takes loads.
c. canon gadget camera bag. Don't use it anymore.Screams canon inside :)
d. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kalahari-Ka...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1351319931&sr=1-1
beautiful bag. strong and loads of spaces and pockets. this is my everyday camera bag. Always on my shoulder.

3. canon 60d. this was an upgrade from 450d. I needed faster frame rates and video. this fits perfectly. fantastic camera and undervalued because it is being compared to 50D. I don't care about 50D and bought it on its merits. I bought a grip for it and an extra battery. Coupled with 580EXII flash (amazing).

4.Lenses:
a. canon 60mm macro. My favorite, fantastic sharpness, used everywhere and of course for macro photography. Check flickr for groups for macro and non macro examples.
b. sigma 17-50 OS. Simply amazing. Excellent sharpness in center and edges.fast and accurate AF.
c. Tamron 70-300 VC, this is brilliant lens as well, excellent IS, tricky at the long end but very acceptable.

I only carry 3 lenses as they cover all my needs. Might be looking for wide angle (dont really need it yet) or get 100mm macro for that extra reach (not desperate yet).

Problem is finding the time. My work load is heavy at the moment and being a single dad with 2 kids does not leave much time to practice.

at the moment it is purely family and holiday photography due to lack of time.

There you ago. I thought this might start kick something.

Yay! I adore my 60D!!

I'm glad this has been started. I want to upgrade my 450D to a 60D before the end of the year and will look forward to what others think of this camera.:)

i love my 60d i shoot mostly motor sports and its aint let me down yet, its been though some crazy weather from subzero Forrest to extremely wet and muddy Forrest (y)

Whs. I have my camera focusing on SERVO the af lights in view finder doesnt light up. Is that correct

Mine does the same, I wouldn't worry about it too much :)

Can a 60d use multiple ac point. I now you can use all points or say a single point but can you select 3, 4, 5 af points or wont if do that

I think you'll find it can select any single point, or all of them , but not groups - as far as i'm aware out of the canon range only the 1 series DSLRs (and maybe the 5d etc) let you pick groups.

read your manual

that said for most of the photography you are going to be doing there's no need to have a group selected anyway - if the subject is stationary use one shot a single point, if its moving use servo and use them all - simples

I recently asked a similar question regarding my AF Servo and focus points on my 60D (HERE).

Looking at buying one of these in the month or so. Quite surprised there's not more said about them on here.

I just seen a great deal on camerapricebuster for a 60d and 17-55mm. I've got the same setup and it blows the socks off the kit lens.

What would you like to know?

I just bought one of these, and I'm using the EF-S 15-85mm lens.

I'm really happy so far, its a big step up from my 450D.

There a few posts in the link below which might answer your questions and help you decide .:)

there's quite a bit said on this forum as well without having to brave potn :bang:

Out of interest, is there an android app (or forum reader) for potn?

60d owner here, had it since May. Bought it to replace a 450d, mainly for better iso performance. Using it with a 18-55 kit lens, 55-250, 50 f1.8 and a siggy 10-20. Love it and use the variable angle screen a lot more than I thought. Mainly a landscape guy but have done Motorsport, live music, night (stars and aurora) photography with it and its beer missed a beat. The only problem I've had is the pop up flash has got a bit sticky, a quick clean and it's been fine again.

Alright, what's the best lens to get with the camera?

I was thinking about getting the 18-135mm and the 50mm F1.8 to get me going but I've been reading some worrying things about the 18-135.

I'm just interested in getting the best versatile lens for the money at the beginning. I like the 50mm F1.8 for it's shallow depth of field look and also that's it's small. The other one, I just want a bit of tele so I don't always have to be right up close.

I'm probably going to buy from DigitalRev so the body will be about £500 and I have a budget of £800 in total. Hence £300 for lenses.

I'd seen on the DigitalRev review I think of the 60D they used the 18-135 lens and said it was good but have since read it's not all that.

Where have you read that the 18-135mm is not that good
The newer STM is supposed to be better than the older lens

The 17-85mm seems to outperform
http://www.photozone.de/canon-eos/40...is_50d?start=1

maybe save for the 15-85mm is you can
http://www.photozone.de/canon-eos/46...3556is?start=1

all 3 lenses have some major barrel distortion at the widest ends.

This is the one I was thinking of getting http://www.digitalrev.com/product/canon-ef-s-18-135mm/NzUyNg_A_A

The 18-135mm lens is nice and very handy.

I've got:

17-55 2.8
18-135
70-200 F4 IS
50mm 1.8
60mm 2.8 macro
1.4x II

I often thought about selling the 18-135mm but if you just fancy taking the camera and a single lens it's a very good option.

Of course the 17-55mm is a much better lens and is always my first choice.

The new 18-135 STM lens is available from Amazon for £380, about £85-£130 more than the mark 1 version.

I had the 18-135 kit lens when I had my 600d and really wish I never sold it. I thought it was great lens for the price. Only wish it had a USM

What a lot of people have upgraded from a 400/450D !

me too

Love mine - and unexpectedly love the more robust body ! - which balances bigger lenses !

Bought it from Kerso - who i would highly recommend - along with an 18-200 Canon walkabout - which i also love !
