I am guessing the 5D replacement is soon, and the 70-200 variant seems really good value ! Especially the F4, that's like 25% off.
 
excellent, will be interesting to see the UK £ off prices...anyone know if they generally convert the euros? cant imagine they do :(

Wait and see if we get some cash back before I buy I want a 70-300 so its worth waiting a while

According to the BBC - £1 buys you 1.427 ('ish) Euros, so 70 euros off the 40D gets you about £49 quid off'ish.

The money off the Canon 70-200 F4 IS sounds very interesting!! Does anyone know if Kerso purschases qualify for cashback? :D

Some how I doubt Canon will do the currency converstion quite as nicely as that. £30 off the 40D I recon maybe. £70 off the 70-200 f4 IS maybe? Hope I am proved wrong :p
 
How is this validated? Do you have to buy through a major outlet in order to get a voucher or receipt to validate your claim or would a lens bought through (for example) Kerso, be eligible too? If the former then this would pretty much wipe out any savings as you'd pay over the odds for it in the first place?
 
From what I've read and my experience, most online retailer is fine. I know people who sent in a Kerso receipt and still got the cash back, I claimed on my 30D last year with my Jessops receipt and that went through fine.

And I also know them to be "flexible" with the dates, so if you just got it this week it is worth sending in a claim too.
 
Raymond, Where did you find out this info? cant seem to find any reference to this anywhere else on the web :(
 
Well I'm planning to order a lens of Kerso in the very near future but, if I can get this cashback, it could well alter what I buy. Of course I'd need to be sure I could get the cashback validated from his receipt before buying as, if I went for a more expensive lens on the basis of the cashback and then couldn't get it, I'd be rather screwed :)
 
I got it off another forum I frequent, seems reliable as I got the same tip before I got my 30D (so, I waited 2 weeks so I got it in the time frame)
 
Ooh, that's nice, I just costed my autumn shopping list and it looks like I could save 2900 euros...
 
Looks like ill be saving 210euros (£145) when i buy myself my christmas presents. :) I need to save ~£1705 up before I can buy the bits though... :(

Yes they do, I got a 70-200 2.28 IS and a 17-55 2.8 IS in the summer and then received my £163 cash back from Canon.

Just tried that link and it took me to the old cashback offer...
Am hoping I can take advantage of flexable dates, as I got me a 17-55 a couple of weeks ago, and damn me for buying a S/H 70-200 2.8IS last week...
 
The cash back will be on the Canon site from 1st October 2007, Hopefully it will be back datable to 20/8/2007 when I got my 580EX mkII :LOL:

Well, having just bought a 17-40 F4 L and a 70-200 F4 L I a couple of weeks ago I do hope they're flexible with the dates!!!!

That's £170 back in the pocket (ok ok, to spend on anothr bit of kit).
 
i emailed kerso and he states that his receipt will hold for the cash back, oh and pay day is just around the corner.
 
Yeah Kerso said the same to me. God that 70-200 F4L is looking tempting now, just trying to justify the IS version.

Anyone know how long it typically takes to receive the cashback from Canon?
 
I bough from Kerso in the summer and I got my cashback with in 3 weeks .....
70-200 F4 L IS next in my list ...
 
I feel a 40D body and a EF 24-70 2.8L USM Lens coming on.... :) - lens purchased approved by 'her in doors' now i just need to mention the 'backup' body.:naughty:

My cashback from the previous offer took around 6 weeks so i agree with whiteflyer expect it within 2-8 weeks.
 
£220 off the kit I am half pondering.....damn you Canon! dont tempt me :p

Unless it was a typo, he didn't say IS, merely the standard F2.8 non-IS. Personally I don't see the point of this lens now that the F4 IS is available. Unless you really need the extra aperture stop for isolating subjects with shallow DoF, the 4-stop IS of the F4 will more than outweigh the wider aperture plus the F4 IS is lighter and weather sealed.

EDIT: Just remembered the only other advantage of the F2.8 would be that it'd still autofocus with the 2x TC on all bodies, whereas the F4 would need a high-end camera.
 
Fair enough, but can I ask why exactly? Does it make enough difference to the DoF to outweight the advantages of the F4 IS?

Nope. I purchased the 70-200 USM IS f/2.8 from Kerso a month or so ago for £1000. So minus the new cashback offer it'll be £865 !!!!!!!!!

I'm happy with the price I paid, but come on guys and girls how cheap does it have to be to pick up one of these babies.
 
Think you've mis-read. petemc said he was looking at the 70-200 2.8 to which whiteflyer responded with the price. I was commenting that the price quoted by whiteflyer was for the IS version when petemc didn't mention this - i.e he was on about the non-IS 2.8 which is nearly half the price :)

As for how cheap it has to be - err cheaper for me I'm afraid. Whilst F2.8 is obviously desirable, the IS version is still £365 more expensive than the F4 IS, even with this cashback offer. Personally I can't justify that much for the extra stop right now, hell I'm having enough trouble justifying the F4 IS! At least L glass holds its value well so if I choose to upgrade next year there's every chance I could get back all of what I paid with the cash back offer.
 
Oh sorry :( I missed the IS off. I do want the f/2.8 IS L shiny white barrel of goodness. I want it because it'll work better in low light and has nicer depth of field for people shots. They'll stand out more than at f4. I want people to stand out in a sea of lovely bokeh.
 
Ah fair enough then, the F2.8 IS is indeed the ultimate - I was comparing the F4 IS to the F2.8 non-IS at the same price, my point being that I can't see why you'd opt for the latter. If you can afford both F2.8 and IS then go for it you lucky git :)
 
Last time canon had he cash back offers, I noticed a few stores (digital Depot) increased the prices by the amount of the cash back. Check the prices before and during the offer and see what happens to them.
