hi just wondering if anyone knows where the cheapest reliable place to get the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. i have had a scout on here and found the cheapest i could see which was for hdewcameras.co.uk for £655 New!.

Can this be beaten?

That's a discontinued lens. Are you sure you mean that?

That seems like a good price. I bought mine from an eBay seller, who does have a bona fide camera shop in Wales, this time last year for £750. It was new, but was cheap because it had been split from a kit with the 5D MkII. There seemed to be a few of these offers around at the time, some advertised in the photographic mags, but this was the cheapest.

You should also check whether it is a grey import, as you may not be covered on warranty if it is.
 
if have just been in talks with them by email and they have stated that they receive them from outside the EU delivered to them, they then send this next day delivery to the customer. from their website they state this:

All products come with a standard 1-year manufacturers warranty based on the sales invoice you receive with the product. All you need is to keep the invoice.
 
hmm seems to have gone up to £689 now!

this was on their old site, still at 655 :)

You will find prices from importers fluctuate a fair bit. As for the guarantee, I thought lenses unlike camera bodies were covered by a worldwide agreement.
 
Just found their site - still showing £655 for me.

Bearing in mind that the lenses are not made in the EU, then all lenses must come from elsewhere, i.e. the Far East, but what you need to be sure of is that they were made for the UK market and not the USA market, for instance. If they are ordering them from the USA then they are grey market. I believe there is an eBay seller who does this, but offers some protection for items purchased in the UK. I'm sure someone will remind me of his name.

Julian, you could be correct about that. I did hear something of that nature a while ago, but wasn't sure.

yeah sorry i went to their .com site which is there old site, still at 655 just deciding to bite the bullet and buy it. similar prices on ebay for new and used though..... also can't access the classifieds on here yet.

Yes.

The first is shipped from Hong Kong - you may get charged tax on this.

The second comes from HK but also has a UV filter. Again, you may get taxed on this price.

The third is from the UK and (presumably) has had VAT paid. You won't get taxed on this price.
 
When I say may get charged, I'd expect to get charged - the import duty is something like 28% IIRC (plus any collection fees).
 
If you are going to buy from digi-rev buy from their online site not their ebay site as you are likely to charged tax, but if you have decided on that lens that HDEW price is excellent and having bought from them previously their communication was very good.

Thanks for clearing that up, guess the best price will be in my original post then as the prices mentioned on the second hand site are the same as the new one I saw.
 
well i went and ordered it from hdewcameras for £655 early hours this morning so i will update when it arrives. thanks
 
Hi Chris, I'm sure you'll love your lens. I got mine with a 5D2 kit and the whole lot was £2,025 while the 5D2 body on its own was £1,425 so I got the lens for £600. It spends about as much time on my 7D as it does on my 5D2 and gives great IQ on both. I got mine from hdew cameras too, it took 4 days from ordering to receiving it so you should get it about the middle of next week. Happy shooting !!

thanks for the post mate, yeah this is my first L lens, i have a 50mm 1.8 and the kit lens which came with my 600D the 18-55mm which i am selling on ebay. i plan to use this new lens as my everyday walk about lens also taking it to mexico for my honeymoon in feb cannot wait!!
