Quote: CHDK is a firmware enhancement that operates on a number of Canon Cameras. CHDK gets loaded into your camera's memory upon bootup (either manually or automatically). It provides additional functionality beyond that currently provided by the native camera firmware.CHDK is not a permanent firmware upgrade: you decide how it is loaded (manually or automatically) and you can always easily remove it.

Has anyone used this software to hack their Canon? Just looking for user feedback & real life experiences... Looks like it could offer some good benefits for technically adept canon P&S owners :)

There have been a few threads about this.

such as this one.

it looks cool but it ruins the camera if they giving in a text reader and games and file browser its not the same, just like phones theyre used for phoning and texting but they have gimmicks such as cameras and music players. if i want a camera i'll get one, if i want a music player i'll get an ipod, if i want to have files then i'll buy a pda or laptop. its my opinion but i just think those few things aren't necessary

I use it and it's great. You have nothing to loss by using it.
The motion detection, interval meter and remote are the most useful bit in my option.

I've used it briefly on my G9. Haven't really found a use for it yet as I already have raw and histograms etc. Its very easy to install and use.

Keep meaning to try this on my IXUS75 but always forget. Maybe today :D

I agree. It's the things like getting raw out of p&s cameras that caught my eye. Not that I have a need but I know someone who could make use of this...

I have it on my A620 and find alot of the stuff pretty useful but alot of it I would never use.

I like the live histogram, battery % indicator, motion detector & live blinkies. Its worth a look if your camera is compatible and doesn't harm it because all the code is on the SD card.

Ok now I remember why I never put this on my IXUS75 - seems I need to determine the firmware version it is running already and I can't for the life of me make it do that :( also that site is so poorly written (I am guessing it is a translation) that it makes it way more confusing.

Cameras with the 1.01a firmware can/must use the CHDK version for 1.01b - the autobuild already just copies this, so when you have a 1.01a cam you will find YOUR version in the autobuild. Development is happening in the 1.01b tree, then compiled and just renamed for the 1.01a people.

erm....ok?

How to find out your is on the CHDK website. All I had to do was put a file on my card and pressed FUNC SET and DISP.

It works great for me. Shooting RAW and stuff is handy as it gets me a little familiar with it before I go DSLR.
