Hello folks,

I've been searching the web but cannot find what I'm after so thought I'd ask the experts on here as usually you answer my questions in about 5mins flat :)

I'm looking to do a shoot with a friend, just us two but both in shot, therefore I need a remote release as I'm not a fan of using the timer, I want to take more shots quickly etc and without having to keep going back and forth.

However I cannot find anything longer than 1m? I just need a cheap cable release, really don't want to spend much as doubt its something I will use very often. I will probably use a 50mm prime on my Canon 40D so hence want some distance with the cable.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

The RF-602 works as a wireless remote for Canon.. more range than you'll be comfortable putting between yourself and your camera. I use it with a 40D.

Hmm, I have the Canon wireless remote for my old body (350D), the cirlcle remote - it wasn't ideal IMO as it had a delay. I'd rather spend as little as possible but that's a good shout Alister.

I just assumed you could get a cheaper cable job that is longer, there are so many of them but they all seem to be just 1m.

I guess it depends on which one you have the early ones was just a jack so easy to get but later ones I go for wireless.

Just buy a suitable extension lead for a cheapy wired remote, think mine was about 2 or 3 quid on Ebay and its about 2.5m long

Does the job fine, both items came to about a tenner and didn't want to spend much given how infrequently they get used

tijuana taxi - this is exactly what I'm after, I will have a search on ebay.

Will try and see who i got it from, just make sure you get the correct jack size

That would be really helpful, I can't seem to find one at present, only for another model.

Pretty sure we've got a 15m long stereo headphone extension lead for using with the 400D

Unfortunately the 40D doesn't use a 3.5mm headphone jack..

Phottix do a 5m wired extension.

The RF-602 seems to vary from just over £20 from HK to just over £26 for UK stock. But for that your getting something you could use as a wireless remote or wireless flash trigger.. and you wouldn't have any cable in-shot when using it as a remote shutter.

If it's for a one-off it might be worth seeing if there's anyone local that has one they could lend to you.

Several possibilities here.

If its only a cheap remote, cut the end off and join the lead to the remote by twisting the bared wires and cover with plastic insulating tape
Then just connect the plug back on to the extended lead, not pretty, but will work

Guys, this is awesome - really appreciate the help. I may well go for the wireless trigger then as would be good to use it with my flash too in the future.

The forum really is superb, so many helpful people.

Doh! misread the original post - sorry.

With my 40D/50D I went for a wireless trigger. If you get the RF-602's that Flash in the Pan sells, you can use then to trigger an external flashgun, or connect a cable to use them as a camera trigger, dual use.
