Hello,

I have a Canon Speedlite 430EX iii-RT. Can I use it remotely with my Canon 7D Mkii in the RADIO RT mode (Not optical) direct from camera to flash, without using a trigger or other RT flashgun?

I can’t seem to find out anything online in this respect. I was under the presumption that the whole idea of RT flash was ‘camera to remote flash direct’ or do I have to get something like the Canon ST-E3-RT or another RT flash?

Thanks!

You'll require a radio transmitter.

No cameras currently have a radio transmitter built in.

The Canon ST-E3 rt is expensive, but the Yongnuo YN-E3-RT is good vfm and has all the same functions (+2nd curtain sync)

Thank you Phil, appreciated and confirmed my suspicions.

Yes, or another Canon RT flash gun, or Yongnuo RT flash gun. The YN-E3-RT also adds remote second-curtain sync as Phil says, plus an AF assist beam (y)
