I'm sure this has already been covered, sorry.

Just bought a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L USM (non-IS), are there any benefits in using a teleconverter? What price might they be please?

Thanks in advance.

Telecons increase focal length, and raise the f/number. These things are fixed. Sharpness is also reduced, plus slower AF, but this depends on the quality of the mother lens, and the telecon.

Your lens will take a 1.4x well, creating a 98-280mm f/4. Kenko 300 Pro is pretty good, about £140, or one of the Canons - up to £500.

You need a very good lens indeed to get away with a 2x which would take you up to 400mm f/5.6 at the long end.

I use both the Canon 1.4x and 2x TC on my 70-200mm 2.8 IS and the results are great. These TCs are not cheap but well worth the investment.

Whilst I fully accept the work and precision that goes into canon L lenses and this is reflected in the price. I have a bit more difficulty in accepting the prices for canon 1.4 & 2.0 TC, seems an awful lot of money for not much in your hand.
