Canon users -are RF lenses worth the premium for hobbyists?

The 50/1.8 is purely a question of volume as far as I'm concerned... The adaptor basically doubles the bulk of the lens assembly.

I suppose that makes for easier handling if I have large, clumsy hands (which I do).

Just reviving this thread to ask for some feedback on two lenses. What is your views on the following options for a Canon R7?

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM vs the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM

and

The Canon EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM vs the Canon RF-S 10-18mm f4.5-6.3 STM Lens?
Same as I wrote in my first answer, small light lenses attached to a large heavy adaptor feel awful to me.

It’s a personal choice, but can you use the camera size site to view them side by side?

For me, I’d definitely go for the rf

I wouldn't say the adapter is large and heavy but I see the point - both work well, so if you already have the EF one and you like the size keep it, if you want small go RF.

It’s about 2/3 the weight of the 50mm 1.8, I’d consider that significant. Particularly as I’m then hanging that little 50mm lens further from my camera.

Interesting point about the size difference between RF and EF lenses, was talking to a chap the other day who had the RF 100 - 400 on an R7
I was surprised how small it was hadn’t seen one before
Apparently it can focus quite close as well so a pretty useful and easy to carry setup for nature photography

My experience with canon stm motor is on the negative side. Now maybe they improved it in rf version which i dont know. The problem was the minimum step is quite large, meaning at wide apertures it wasn't very reliable at all, and would come in and out of focus. Usm is much more prices, but since then the game moved to linear motors which canon only discovered 1 or 2 years ago
