Hi all,

My car tax renewal is coming up for the end of November, and I see that people who need to renew their tax from the 1st November 2014 can now pay by monthly direct debit and so I think this is a good option for myself.

But what I don't understand is this:

------
When the Direct Debit scheme can’t be used
Paying by Direct Debit will not be available to:

  • first registration vehicles
-----

What does 'first registration vehicles' mean? Does it mean that if you buy your car brand new (i.e. you are the first registered owner) you can't use the direct debit scheme?

Thanks :)
John.

It's for brand new i.e. unregistered cars. I imagine its because the first registration admin fee of £55 needs taking care of as well.

Correct ... ish! DD is available when the car is already registered to you on the system even if you're the first registered keeper. But it's not available for that first registration of the car.
