Cardinal butterfly

Here's something that landed on my Buddleia the other day. Thought initally it was a Dark Green Fritillary, but it seems not, and as long as my ID is correct here's a couple of Cardinal shots.

Taken with the 7D, 100/2.8 macro and MR14 ring flash.

The second one is great: clear, sharp, well-framed, good colour, and you can see the butterfly's tongue quite clearly. I'm not so fond of the first one, mainly because of the angle you shot it from, the central framing, and something distracting right behind the insect.

Apart from the background, which |Iknow there's not much you can do about with scaring the butterfly off, I love that first picture, it looks boss eyed
Think the central framing works fine too

Love the second shot but agree about getting rid of the BG mess.

My Buddleia has a lot to answer for with that messy background that's for sure!! Thanks for looking.
