Cars that will have value in the future?

A polish lass where I work drives a Rover 25 that sounds like a diesel, even though it's petrol powered. :p

I should probably have kept the Frogeye
I had the grown up version, long door TR2 sold it for 50 quid IIRC!

Not sure if this'll make "classic status" or not, its certainly an (im)practical classic :D

Been thinking about this while unable to sleep.

My Frogeye needed about 5 grand spending on it to get it 100% - about 35 years ago. Add in 35 years of storage at about a grand per year (averaged out over the 35 years) and I'd have spent 40 grand on keeping it. A car that is now worth 30k for a concours example. I had 18 months of fun out of it and sold it for what I paid for it.

I should of kept my Capri, I'd like to get hold of a Honda S2000 as a second car and hold on to it.
I bought my present S2000 new in 2009, one of the last available and some prices advertised are approaching what it cost me, Classic Car mag has done a feature on them as a future classic.
No plans to sell my toy yet, can’t replace it really.

I chose the MX-5 purely on a cost basis compared to the S2000, it was dropped off yesterday so I had a couple of short runs out and its definitely fun to drive. You can't really compare them as cars but budget wise I get as much newer car that's cheaper to insure and tax.

I had a Lancia Integrale. Damned shame that I sold it - should have tucked it away somewhere. An awesome car.

I had an S2000 but sold that as it tried to kill me a couple of times. Decidedly random handling on fast corners. Fun though, except for the room tearing in corners down by the back of the rear door.

I’ve now got a Mk6 Golf R. It is holding its value really well, and I’ll hold on to it for as long as I can. I reckon it’s a future classic, much more so than the current Mk7 which is far more plentiful and not nearly as pretty.

Hopefully my MX5 will appreciate in future.

Keep it clean and tidy and it will. MX5s are currently so cheap that a lot are being trashed. I suspect Mk2s are going to end up at higher values since they are much worse for rotting away than the mk1 and will become scarcer faster.

Originality will be key - with any "classic". Bolt on goodies (suspension braces, induction kits etc.) will be OK but keep any original air boxes and the like if you hope to make any money in the long run.

If I had to invest I'd look at:

Mk1 Audi TT in Silver (became a classic the minute it was released)
BMW Z3 or Z4M (fun roadsters)
Alfa GTV (or loads of other Alfas)
Citroen C6 (mad looking and very rare)
Citroen XM (mad looking but not as rare)
Renault Avantime (see Citroen C6)
Nissan 350Z (great car to drive, already has aged well)
Land Rover Defender (Not rare but much loved and no longer made)
Big Barges like 90s S-Class Mercs will always do well in future if kept right.
