Hi folks, I have a Canon 50D camera and have a Sandisk 4GB extreme 111 CF Card (30mb/s) inserted. I shall be orf on holiday quite soon and wish to purchase some additional storage. My question is...should I get another of these cards or should I be getting something different. I am fairly new to the game so don't yet know too much about it. I am not looking to spend the earth so will be most appreciative of any recommendation as to the card/type and where best to get a good deal. Many thanks in advance of any input.

Any CF card will do, but the Sandisk Extreme III is a good card. Now called Ultra as Sandisk had a shuffle of their performance levels.
Thank you andrewc, itsdavedotnet and creid for your prompt replies. I'm off to hit the hay now but my first port of call in the morning will be the 7dayshop, thanks again to each of you, enjoy the rest of the weekend,

You'll probably find that an older card will cost the same or more than a new one becuase of the was stock is managed in the larger online retailers...
I just bought a couple of 16Gb cards that cost less than older 8Gb cards (same manufacturer) from the same vendor...

Go for a nice new one...treat your camera...

MY ulta ii 4gb card i think (30mpbs) takes about 25-30 mins to get 4gb of stuff of it :| sooooo slow but that could be the pc

sounds like the pc....

As a matter of interest there was a review of Memory cards in Photoplus Magazine very recently. I skimmed it in Smiths- just about all I retained in MY memory was that SanDisk was a pretty safe bet performance wise.

Hi jerry12953, I have just read this review in the Spring 2010 edition of PhotoPlus and in this the PNY Optima came on top for 'Best value' at a target price of £30 for an 8GB 10 mb/s card. The tested write speed came in at 21.1 mb/s and the tested read speed was 28.7 mb/s
The best card on test was the SanDisk Extreme 16GB 60 mb/s with a target price of £80.00.
Although I am likely to stick with the SanDisk I am wondering if anyone out there has any experience of the PNY Optima. Thanks again to all who have given input. this really is a great place for advice/guidance
