I just finished putting together the new website. I thought I would run it by a few people and get some feedback and make sure everything works and is spelt correctly.

Many thanks in advance for taking time to check it.

ps. I realise its flash so just leave all the hate at the door ;)
figured i'll add my old site just for reference too..

ok, new site = http://www.portfolio.richardgrebby.co.uk

I really like the full screen style, the way the links are clear and easy and the constant logo. I wonder if the logo can be at higher quality/res.. not sure :S That's a minor though as it's pretty clear anyway.

I want one :)

Not keen on the full screen thing, i'm afraid, but that's just personal taste. For me it'd probably look better just under full screen but with a definite border.

Also, I had a quick look at the portraits galleries. I like them but there are far too many images in the "Girls" one that I looked at. I think 10 or 12 would be more than enough to give people an idea of your style and work.

Good work though, and for me it's only minor changes to make it really good.

yeah im going to cut it down a bit I think, maybe so there is only 1 page of 3 rows on each galley as a maximum.

like it Richard

Are you creating this from scratch in flash or is a theme?

Can't see any of it on my iPod :(

Personally I love it, and the full-screen mode really rocks....

Last time I tried a website it looked like a 10-year old had done it in Frontpage.... I may have a good eye for certain things, but design deffo isn't one of them! :D

That's due to it being a flash website, and Mr Apple don't do no flash; no sah! :D

So maybe reconsider the total use of flash for yr site?

Nice,
I like the full screen style. I think it lends to wedding only sites though, don't know why it does that just the vibe I get from these sort.

Nice site though, only as strong as your weakest pic blah blah..

Perhaps Apple should reconsider rather than expect millions of people to bin their websites due to folks with Apple mobile devices not being able to view them?

Google doesn't do flash.

Javascript, CSS is where you need to be for the search engines.

Really nice site, I like the full screen and the way the whole site works.

I've also got a Bludomain site but have been forced to look at alternatives due to the poor indexing by Google, I've dropped right down and since switching to flash, my hits have suffered. I'm either going to go back to a pure html site, or go with something like CMD who also give you an html mirror site.

Let us know how you get on, a splash page may be useful as you can at least get a few keywords on there which Google will look at.

I do like these full screen sites (visually) but lately leaning more towards a solution that is easier to maintain and also more suited to optimisation. There are some great WordPress themes available and if you have a little CSS (although not required) then you can make it your own...

Its very easy to maintain and blu have some interesting ways to get you onto google better. Plus they offer mobile versions now so for $50 I could have the iphone ready version of my website.

Having had another look, I really like it, its excellent for a bluedomain site and I think the full screen approach works very well for a site like this. Sometimes the navigation can be a little tedious but other than that its a great display of your excellent work - well done.

As someone else pointed out maybe cut down on the amount of girls images..

Oh, and there are ways for flash get decent ranking in search engines - people tend to go over the top in their negativity towards flash & SEO. It takes a bit of work but is certainly possible.

how much control do you have with blue domain. I went with them once and, although struggling to remember I think they had to set it all up for you

It's not that easy with a template site, as the only control you have is putting the content in. You don't get any of the flash files to work with.

not sure if its a bad point but i spent so long watching the excellent photos in the slideshow waiting for it to loop i got distracted with checking the rest of the site

or is that a cunning method of reducing your bounce rate :p

Hah thanks ;)

As for editing outside of the bludomain admin page. There isnt a lot you can do. You have options for splash screens though.

I think I reduced the number of girls now and added a few bits like a blog etc but im happy with it, now to work on an html version for people in the stoneage ;)

Just a word of warning with Bludomain. I've noticed that every time I add photos to a gallery or the homepage, my sitemap becomes invalid and I have to resubmit a new one. I have no idea why this is but I only noticed after about three months, in which time I lost a lot of traffic. I'm trying to find an answer as to why this could be.

How do you mean?

It's a classy looking website but just took too long to load for me. I think that's down to the Flash and my connection isn't too slow. Good effort though!

I really like this website, its flashy, professional looking and full screen lends well to your wedding images for maximum viewing impact. There was a bride with her head missing though, not sure if that can be altered or is that what happens with full screen? Bludomain get a good name from what i hear.

what I am curious to know is, can you run a blog alongside a flash website like richard's bearing in mind that its a template. If your blog is java, html, css and it has loads of links that point to your flash site, will that earn you page rank? Could you also design your splash away from the template, so xyz.com takes you to your splash page which is seo friendly and optimised and your splash pages takes you to your actual flash site?
