I`m doing the photography,FOC, at a charity cricket match on SUnday coming. I have never photographed one before and would like some genearl advice and tips please?

I was thinking of taking the 120-300 and the 300-800,is the latter overkill or do I need that length?

It is a 20/20 match and is more of a real fun day than a serious match, should I just take the 120-300 and get in amongst the action?

Tony,Kipax, it is at Accrington Cricket Club,if you have any info on the venue, that would be great......

Hi Ade

take both. The 120-300 will be your best bet though you'll be able to use the sigmonster if its good light. take a meter reading off the grass and then add some exposure comp dependent on the team kits. If the ground is small 300 will be ok.

Sit at a rightangle to the wicket or behind and to the side of the where the bowler runs in. if you have decent light in the afternoon (after 3-4pm) try and sit with the sun from behind you to get rid of the shadows under the helmet......

hope this helps, im off to my pit. up again in 6 hrs

Am sure KIPAX and the others will be along shortly

For once (;)) reach may be king here, although chances are it'll be a smaller pitch and 300 may be enough with a little cropping. Do you have a 1.4 extender to use with it maybe?

I think the teams are in fancy dress Andy............

Thanks for the tips mate, take care and I`ll see you when you get back to blighty............

I do Phil,i`ll take that as well.

The beer will be flowing all day, so it could be good fun. You sure 200mm won`t be enough?.............;)

It was enough at football this arvo along with the 300, but cricket is a whole different ball game (literally!) :D

Cheers Phil.

Mrs Frac is picking the cameras up straight after the match, before I get Pis...edit..... on the beer...........:D

By the way, if anyone local fancies popping along, it is this Sunday and all proceeds go to the East Lancs Hospice, Derian House and the McMillan nurses.

It will be a good day, if your stuck for something to do,please come along.

only other thing i'd say is set the kit up on your tripod and 393, I tried this last time and prefered it to a monopod. Might not be to everyones liking though.

You got any details for the hospice, think a donation is in order :)

If the ground is not too far away, why not take both lenses (and the body!) over and see what length you need to fill the frame with a batsman at the crease.

Doing just that tomorrow evening,cheers.........

oi! just found this thread... you should have pm me and point me to this :) ... was wondering what to do sunday afternoon with my new lens (hope to pick up a 400mm on friday hehe)

have a look at my galleries from accy cricket club .. there all done with 300+1.4 (420mm) and around 50% crop.. so you really do need more than 300mm

I ahve ice hockey later in day and maybe a trip to womens footy.. what time you going? and who asked you... cheeky buggers didnt ask me.. sod em i aint going.. haha... go on what time?

BTW nothing on the accy cc website about this game ..is it a secret?

Hi Tony, it wasn`t organised by ACC,they donated the ground. It was organised by a couple of top blokes who asked if I would do the photography FOC,I agreed.

Starts at 13:30 on Sunday mate, pop along for an hour if you can....

Haa right I see now :)

I dont want to step on yer toes if your doing the photography mate.. but 20/20 cricket in fancy dress would be a hoot to picture :)
