Cheap 2nd body for Nikon D90 lenses

Hi,
The majority of my shooting is done underwater with a Nikon D90, its not so easy to remove the camera from its housing for a couple of shots while between dives, so I am looking on eBay to get a cost effective camera body that I can use for this purpose which will take all my lenses.
Lenses I have are Nikon 60mm AF-S, 105mm AF D, 70-300 VR, 18-105 VR, and Tokina 10-17, and a Kenko 1.4 Telecon.
I would like the body to work with them all and looking to spend around the £200 mark.
I see there are a few D60's, would this be ample? Or are there any others that would be worth looking at?

...ETA...I've just relaised it would be best to keep to the same battery so that narrows me down a little to D50, D70 D70S D80, D100, D200, D300

Would the D50 or D70 work with my lenses, looking on the other side of the scale, would a D100 or D200?

Any of the bodies in your list from the D50-D300 will do the job nicely, as would the likes of a Fuji S2 or S3 Pro, or even an S5 Pro.
 
Should be able to get a D50, D70 or even D70s for around the £200 mark, even at dealer prices (Mifsuds).
 
Thanks guys, what would be the order of choice between a D70s or D80, and a D100?
 
D80 replaced the D70
D100 was the more professional/weathersealed etc camera of the D70/D50 era.

Outright image quality etc D80
 
You won,t go far wrong with a D50 which you should be able to get under your budget.I have just had a holiday in Turkey and left my D300 at home and used my D50.Check out the pics on Flickr.
 
IF you can manage to find a little extra you could possibly pick up a D200 for around £325 now. This would be a little harder wearing in with your kit. Having been a scuba diver a few years ago I would suggest one of the professional bodies would be of benefit.

Thanks, does the D50 have the AF motor in the body?
At the moment got my fingers crossed on as few D80's on eBay
Might have a look for the D200's too, see how they compare.

I'm after VFM more than the cheapest, if the D200 does a lot more than the D50 then it may be worth the extra, but would the D200 be any better than my D90? if not then maybe settle for the 50 or 80.

When did photo preview come in on the LCD or has it always been there? That could be missed if the D50 hasnt got it

Thanks for your reply...Sorry, its not the Live view I was looking for, what |I am looking for may have been on all the cameras, as my D90 was the first DSLR I have made myself familiar with.


What I refer to is, when you look back at your photos that you have taken, can you see them on the LCD screen? I presume you can , I just want to be sure, I have since found you can on the D70 and 80 but wish to know about the D50 to help me decide

Yes, you can review pictures you've taken on the rear screen of the D50 but the screen isn't the biggest!
 
VFM D50 D70/70s D100 D80 Fuji S2p, S3p
The D80 is likely to cost more than the others but you just might drop on a bargain some where along the way.

All your len's will mount on any nikon Dslr body
With the D40 D40x D60 you lose AF with your 105mm D and your Tokina 10-20mm

I just had a look in LCE and they had a D70 and a D40, cant do the D70 as it has a compact flash card, I dont want to sway from the bits I have now, D40 was too different.

Now I've looked at the D50 online it seems a lot similar to mine than the D40, I've compared the D50 on eBay (around £140) to the D80 (around £290) , what are the major differences for probably £150 between the 2, is the D80 really worth thast much extra for what I want? 4megapixels and a better sensor, I guess thats majorly it??

I had both the D50 and D80 at the same time and apart from the smaller rear LCD and the lack of the top one on the D50 I preferred it to the D80.

Thanks :) what do you mean the lack of the top one on the D50? I tohught you meant LCD on the top siode, but the D50 has one (according to all the photos on eBay)?

Sorry, I was getting fuddled :lol: It's the front command wheel that the D50 doesn't have.
 
After much deiberating, I won a bid on a D80 body :) for £270
I have a 7 day moneyback guarantee on it, can anyone help me with the less obvious things I should look for when I get it please?

I chose the D80 over the D50 as the buttons are in a very similar atrrnagement to my D90 so wont be much to pick yp, plus because of the simiarities it also may fit in my underwater housing as well. not important if it doesnt ***...worth the extra £120 I feel, along with the sensor etc

I had the advantage of the offer to return this within 28 days, I thought for quite a bit about it, I was due to go to the states soon, so thought, if I buy the D7000 over there brand new of course, it would only cost me £500 extra...job done :)

Oops there goes £500 more on a D7000.
I think we have all been there at some point! :lol:
