Cheap nd filters?

Hi,

I would really like to be able to take longer exposures using ND filters but the only 10-stop ND filters I can find are out of my budget (I am a student).

Are there any cheap alternatives? I need to be able to use them on a 52mm thread.

i use the light craft workshop nd500mc filter,which is a 9 stop, it gives good results, but will never meet the quality of lee filters

It's not that far off TBH. I've had the LCW and the big stopper and IQ wise, once the colour has been corrected, there isn't much in it.
The LCW is a massive PITA when you need to refocus or recompose though.
 
ive used the cheap ones - even the welders mask glass, in b+w you can get good results but if you want colour get something like the b+w 110 as its been one of my fav purchases!
 
What about in 37mm, struggling to find reasonable priced ones in this size....

I have that same filter (ordered off ebay instead of amazon) the only problem is I can't use it on full setting at a wide angle because of the 'cross' problem. Zoomed in or not having it near full is ok but I'd like to be able to use a fixed ND for the bulk of the light reduction and then use the variable to adjust if necessary.
