Forgive me if I am talking nonsene but it is half past one in the morning.

The Canon Speedlite ST-E2 transmitter works by infrared doesn't?

Would it be possible to use a cameras inbuilt flash to fire the 430 EX?

I believe you get gels that only allow through infrared, would this placed over an in-camera flash fire the 430EX?

If so that would be cool as the gel would stop the inbuilt flash affecting the exposure.

Just a thought or am I talking through a hole in my head?

the 430 need either the 580 ex11 or the st e2 to fire it with ettl, i dont think you can set it as a slave and fire that way without attachments

If you can use the 430 in manual, then you can manually set it, and get a cheap optical trigger for it - they cost a couple of quid off eBay. If you need to keep ETTL, then the options are as above.

The ST-E2 gives you e-ttl so it may be the best (but not the cheapest) option
