I thought i'd start with this one for direction as it's the East-West of the M62 motorway near Manchester.
Using my Nikon D3000 and tripod to steady it on an ISO100 setting.
I've not altered the image as I don't have any programs to do this, and would not know which is the best to get to do this.

I like what you've done with the theme.

As for the picture I think a longer exposure to get longer light trails would help the picture a little and I'd crop the top and right too to get rid of that streetlight on the top right?

Well done though and only another 50 or so do go :)

Good start. I knew somebody would do some light trails LOL. As Daniel above I'd suggest cropping some off the top to focus the eye on the trails.

Well done, agree with above comments ... only another 51 to go :D

A really good effort and nice to see this interpretation.

Agree with all the points above about cropping out the lamp, the benefit of a longer exposure and the softness which looks like it was caused by movement (was it windy ?).

hi, Chris, I can see what you were after..plenty of directions in there.

For me, it's a tad soft, light trails aren't long enough, top light is distracting and the WB needs sorting.

Take all the C&C onboard and I guarentee you'll see an improvement quite quickly (y)

Cheers.

Thanks for all your comments. Just what I need(y)

It was my first night shoot with the camera, on the standard night settings.

@Defiance: yep windy and just about to start raining.I could also do with a better tripod, as it's the car ariel pull type:puke:

I didn't think about cropping before, but will be poring over the next weeks challenge to make sure its right:D

Chris

I agree with the above comments but there is plenty going on to cover direction :)

If you're after editing software I would consider gimp (Think it's still free) or Adobe Photoshop Element/Lightroom which have all got trial versions.

Looking forward to seeing some more of you're 52 :)

Whats Gimp??
Is that a specialist type of photography?:naughty:

Chris

Good start Chris, and definitely an area of photography I've not tried yet but hoping too soon if the weather gets better, and also trying to find a decent part of the M60 ;)

Hiya Chris, welcome to the 52 wk project. A very good start indeed, You could always post it up in the creative section for more advice if you wish. In terms of photo editing, there are a lot to choose from, there is gimp, which has been mentioned, but is a bit of a tricky one to get used too. For a good free piece of software which is very good and user friendly I would suggest photoscape, I have used that for quite a while and been very pleased with it, I would also suggest Adobe photoshop elements 10, which has a free trial, if you fancy a lok. Good luck with this project and I look forward to seeing the rest of your pics (y)

Hi Chris, what a good start for you and a very good first effort at night trail photography! I agree with the comments about using a longer shutter speed but a good tripod would be useful!

Hi Chris....ooooh..one of fave things to do...Light trails :) & for a 1st time thats a pretty good start .

Slightly longer exposer would result in less broken trails , small crop left & top...tweak the WB a little & you're there (y) Check out the threads & tutorial on Lightrails by MWHCVT ( think thats right ?) if you fancy some much better advice .

I use PSE8 (very badly but learning more n more ) for editing...For a lot of pp I find Picnik much easier to use...not as many options as PSE but def friendlier for my ability (y)

ps...Don't forget to update the spreadsheet...link in 1st post where the themes are listed....makes life so much easier for seeing who's done what...I've updated wk 1 for you (y)

Thanks Blondie,
I didn't know that it existed. Updated for week 2 now :D,

Thanks,
Chris

When week 2's theme came out, I thought "How am I going to do that!!??"

Then after a little thinking I came up with a couple of ideas, but thought this would be the best one for this theme. It took me a while to think of the words for it, but like the message it says.

This was my first attempt with Photoscape and I think the results are ok.

Well done Chris, I do have to say that I spent some time setting up a scrabble board today as well, but it was no where near as good as yours!! I gave up in the end and went for a different idea.

I like the black and white as well it makes you focus on the words more!!

Thanks for the positive comments for Week 2.

I'm getting to like doing the challenges:wacky:
There will definitely be a week that will stump me soon though.
If it's faces or people, I'm done for:puke:

It seemed more luck playing with PS to get the right final effect.
It looks like I'll be going back through my entire photo history and playing with them all now trying to get that perfect effect for it.

Chris

Hi Chris.....brilliant idea for the theme..spot on ...(y)

Like the mono & the DOF...suits the shot well...

Small niggle is the crease in the board...not played scrabble for years so don't know if it's possible to do the same layout in a different place on the board?

No idea what Photoscape is either ....but you seem to have nailed so (y) from me

Chris
great take on "Fear", mono works very well. Dof spot on. Thought of the scrabble idea for direction but just could not get it right, this much better than anything i got from the board. Well done

Hi Chris,

You've made a great start to your 52. Both shots fit the theme very well, week 2 is inspired and works very well in b&w. Well done.

Carol

Hi Chris

Nice take on the theme!(I'm gonna have to think more outside the box for the next one)
The DoF is top and the B+W!

I have to ask what did you score ?

Looking forward to the next 50

Chris

This weeks theme is quite hard to shoot and not my strongest for execution but I think this may be suitable.

I had an idea of getting a close up of a sigh with it being cold weather this weekend but I couldn't get it to work out.
Many thanks to my lovely Mrs for posing for me, as she usually doesn't like her pic taken.
It's the "Sigh" as you open the bonnet to find that's your day done and time to call assistance.

I know where your coming from Chris, but definately hits the theme. I am sure that eveyone will have strong weeks, and weeks where we struggle out our own comfort zones
Well done in a difficult week

We all know that feeling to well and I have had to sigh a fair bit re cars lately too.

Nice take on the theme, but what is that ghosting around your wife??

Great interpretation of a tough theme. As you say yourself, not the best execution (looks a bit "snap-shotty" maybe?), but it's bang on theme :)
