Chrome and IE slow, but not AOL?

Recently when using either Google Chrome or IE9, they are intermittently slow, especially when leaving comments on a thread. However if I work online from the same pc, using AOL software I don’t appear to have the problem. Is there anything that would cause Chrome and Explorer to go slow?
