Hi, I have a number of square ND filters but would like if there is such a thing a circular ND filter to save time when hand holding the camera to darken the sky, can anyone direct me in the right direction on this please?
Thanks
Russ.

yeah they are available in practically every camera shop but there's one huge question.

Do you mean ND or ND Grad?

ND's are popular in circular or "threaded" as screw-in filters are commonly known as whereas grads in "threaded" form are rare, they do make them but I here they are expensive and not that good.

Hi, Yes sorry I meant the NDG just want a quick way to darken sky on a hand held shot, no it can be done in post but rather be outside than sat in front of the computer:)
Thanks
Russ

The problem with circular grad filters is you are unable to change the position of the skyline it's always in across the center of your shot. With a square filter you can slide it up and down in its holder so the skyline could be near the top or bottom as you wish.

I bought one from 7day shop.
Screw in ND grad. TBH its only worth the £7 it cost. I'd stick with the usual square ones. Alright for an emergency I uess, but I wouldnt want it to be my only one.

Hi, Thanks for the replies. Racing car driver? well I live in Greece and if you have ever been you would not ask that question:lol:
The reason I want a screw in NDG is because I don't always use a wide angle for landscape, sometimes use 70-200 hand held when out walking and just seemed an obvious solution to darken a bright sky rather than sit in front of the computer in post.:'(

The bad news is, grads don't really work on longer lenses. The effect is much stronger on wide-angles and over about 100mm they are almost invisible. Higher f/number also deepens the effect.

Try HDR and learn to love the computer. You're sitting in front of it now... :D

Aww it was only a joke Russell. I had visions of you and 3 or 4 other photogrqaphers racing around a course, snapping landscapes, roflmao

I no it was in fun but you should still come to Greece and take a drive. We have a saying on the island "The only way Greek drivers don't come at you is from above"
Merry Christmas
