Circular Polarizing Filter for Zoom or Prime?

Hi,

I am currently shopping for a circular polarizing filter for either my nikon 18-105mm kit or 50mm prime lens. Intending to get a hoya pro filter as I'm very impressed with what it can do. It's hefty price tag is limiting me to only one filter so i'll have to choose. Which lens should i get it for? should i get it for the prime which has a smaller f stop number?

Simply buy for the lens with the larger filter thread and get a step-up ring to use it on the other.
