Why do toggers keep taking this cliched pic of themselves as either facebook profile pic or forum avatar?

See pic below of what I mean.

To me it says "I want to put a picture up, but I don't really want everyone to know what I look like, conveniently though I own a camera, so if I include that people will think it's an arty shot"

They like it?

To me it says 'I'm a photographer'

Plus it's an easy shot to take :p

why's it any different to say a clown fish, a guy in a hockey mask or a blue furry thing? if they like it then live and let live

To me, it says "I've got a camera and a mirror and no imagination!"

Onikami, are you bored by any chance? This is the second thread you've started, having a pop at your fellow members. I would suggest a nice glass of single malt and an evening of relaxation to calm all your fears of reflected avatars and uneditable photos. ;)

Does it count if someone else took it? :p

That's a great photo Mark, obviously taken by a very talented photographer. :D

From the forums I frequent, females love that, whilst most men don't. They choose something completely different or a strange take on the whole self pic theme. My personal theory is that if a woman had a good hair day and has managed to apply her make up just right on one side of her face, she'll preserve that for all to see. ;)

On the other hand, most blokes posting realise that even one side of their face may just be enough to put others off for life!!!! :D:p

I don't think Feininger's image has ever been bettered, TBH...

That pic also shows great imagination, whether it's a self portrait or not. I presume that the subject also had the idea for the pose using the Accessory shoe 'finder and lens as analogues for his eyes?

<<<< guilty, but tbh, I never took this photo... it was taken while I was trying to photograph something else

here is my take on it

If you subscribe to PT4U, that was how one of the apprentices held their camera at the beginning of their course! Hope that's not ypo Kris P Bacon:p

Plus it's an easy shot to take :p

You can tell if they've taken it themselves or not by the side of the trigger finger (unless they've been clever and flipped the horizon).

Ahem how do I set my aviator pic? I uploaded a photo of myself but couldn't see where to set it as my profile pic on here.

Once your logged in, go to the top of the page and click on user CP
on the left side you will see Edit Avatar, just click on that, then you can either use a link to where the pic is hosted online or just upload from your PC.

I would just upload from the PC tbo, even if you already have the pic uploaded somewhere else, it will be easier to just re-upload.

I'll like to tell everyone that I do look like my avatar.
