Do yourself a favour and don't order a domain from one & one internet, they really are crap, and if you try to leave they mess you about transfering domians.
I am moving from them because they are no longer cheap and for my last bill they sent 12 invoices out with varying ammounts on.
There are other that I am sure people will advise on.

I agree with Scraggs - stay VERY clear of 1&1 nothing but trouble in the long run.
 
I use 123reg for mine... they seem to work OK. You can just ignore the webbuilder rubbish (assuming you have a host elsewhere)

A domain name is just a name/pointer you need it to be pointing to the server your website lives on (the host).
 
I've been using www.dataflame.co.uk for years, hosting is £30ish a year and you can get your domain name registered through them, which is much easier than having to change DNS settings.

Not sure whether you can move it somewhere else to get a lower cost, but will be looking into it myself soon. I use Supanames for hosting, but there are many out there and a quick ggogle will bring them up. I'm sure you'll get recommendation from here.
 
I have used both 123reg (3 websites) and uk2.net (7 websites) many times in the past and both offer good packages for the domain name and hosting all in and are very easy to administer and move from if required, also the prices never seemed that bad to me

Mine never have :shrug: Hosting £20 per year, domains £3 per year. Not changed in 4 years.

If you think about it, why should a domain registration cost change? after all, it is trivial to do and once set up requires no human intervention at all. With respect to hosting, I can understand that price changing because costs for the host may rise (or fall) depending on many things beyond the control of the host.

Definitely. £25 for 1 year (I assume) domain name registration is a rip off... it could be three years for a .com I suppose, in which case it is £8 per year.

Just looked at the bill again. It's from Domain Renewal Group and is £20 for 1 year, £35 for 2 years or £65 for 5 years. And it's a .com

Gary - I bought the domain separate to the hosting. I prefer to do it that way, however there are many hosts who will register names for you and I think 123reg will host things for a fee. be careful if you do go for the hostname+hosting option because some companies charge you quite a lot to move the domain name pointers and others actually register the name for themselves and charge you if you want to transfer it elsewhere.

Dude, change your registrant! you may find that DRG charge you a leaving fee :(

Good call.... I completely ignored the fact that the £25 per year could have been (and probably is) a scam not from the original registrant.

How long is a piece of string? As much storage and bandwidth as you can afford basically.

If you only have low DPI images in the gallery, you could get away with 500k per image... so just do the maths. The framework of the site wont take much space compared to the pictures themselves.

Thanks for that guys. :thumbs: I did think it a bit strange and when I re-read the letter it does say "When you switch today to the Domain Renewal..."

I originally set my site up with Supanames including the domain and I think they're linked to 123reg (Or at least they were 2 years ago).

No not really :)

That's £48 per year, not particularly good for 500mb Storage and 5Gb bandwidth.

I use these people for hosting, but that is not a recommend (or a steer clear notice either) it just works for me. For their cheapest hosting package (the one I use) they charge - in big handfuls - £10 per year at the moment (£20 regular price)

I bought my domain from http://www.telivo.com/ cost me £5 for the first 2 years and I have just renewed at a cost of £6 for 2 years.

Price will vary depending on the name /url /your wish to buy.

Who supplies your home telephone? Do you get any web space with you package?
If so you could build a simple web site using Photoshop then load it up yourself via a free ftp site.

I use them too for a domain. And, at the minute, www.110mb.com for free webhosting. Has FTP access and a decent bandwidth allowance until I find a better deal.
 
Another vote for 123-reg.co.uk. Have been with them for a few years now, and have 2 domains with them.
