Yes
I got one free with my first SLR kit, but it doesn't stay circular, there doesn't seem to be any way of connecting both ends of the wire together. Is this normal, or should I bin it and buy a new one?

Sorry, It's broken. Could be something to do with it being free :)

Free/included in kit/useless.

Delete as appropriate.

Any recommendations of what to get to replace it?

Not planning on using it much, so don't want to spend a fortune.

To be honest, I've no idea what size I want. What size would you recommend for general use?

22" is fine for head and shoulder shots, and a bit easier to carry around, if you want full length the 42" will be better.

Its mostly likely to be used for photo's of my cat, so I'm sure that'll be fine. My wife wouldn't have the patience for me to pull out a reflector when taking a portrait whatever its size!

What colour is best for general use?

Gold/White?

Silver/White?

Most of them come with all the colours included. Mine has a cover which is black, white, gold or silver and the actual structure is a diffusing screen . Just look for a five way reflector.

As for which side to use for what, I don't do portraits so I'm no expert, but gold for warming tones, silver for cool, white for neutral, I think (but may be wrong re white and silver).
