Got a phone call earlier to say that I have an interview for the HNC photography that I applied for :)

Has anyone got any experience of photography courses at Motherwell college?

Am I doing the right thing, 32 in October and trying to switch careers after 12 years in IT :cuckoo:

I have no knowledge of Motherwell, but one thing I do know is that if you don't
try you will regret it, 32 is a good age to change your career and in any case if all else fails you can still go back to IT.

Think only you can answer that really. However it's sounds like a great opportunity, good luck if you go for it.

I've had 11 years in IT now and I know I need a change.

Agree with the above.

I'm 29 and have just taken the plunge, so far i'm not regretting it. When does the course start?

Do you have to take a portfolio with you? I'd imagine that would be the case for HNC.

Good luck.

Course started on Monday, Interview is Wednesday at 8.30 ish and if it goes OK, I start at 9 on wednesday

I sent them the link to my flickr which has about 25 pictures when I applied.

I'd rather shelf stack though than go back to IT full time again for someone elses company. I dont mind so much doing it for myself.

Thanks Marcus.

Expect many questions when the course starts and for the next 50/60/70 years :D

Just about to start year 2 of the HNC - thoroughly enjoying it and surprised myself by getting on with the 16-18 year olds that comprise the largest part of the class. I dare not tell them my age but I think they think i'm in my 30s. I have fit in really well and we all get on - apart from those that seem to hate photography (no idea why they are on the course). Made some solid friends which I hope last longer than the course. Cant wait to get back to start the second year but have to wait until 16th Sept.

I have stopped working to undertake this course after working for 25 years or so. I knew I could no longer do something that did not stimulate my creative juices.

So to summarise - do not feel you are too old, all students and tutors have something to teach you, career change always good and shows great strength of character.

Good luck with the course, work as hard as you can, emerse yourself in it and have as much fun as possible.

i did my hnc there last year and cant complain, well i could but not doing it on public forum.

the course itself is not bad at all, they have changed the staff this year and some of the course so its different to what i did last year.

Best of luck to you mcneep, I am sitting in the cafe at my college awaiting the first tutorial of my hnd course.

I cannot believe the difference in the facility's from when I was a youngster:eek:
