I used to have a compact camera as a spare, but in the last couple of years or so, I have never felt the need for one. Simply because, if I have a compact, such as Coolpix S50, it is just a point n shooter, so not going to get anything amazing. They're nice things to have, but in my case completely unneeded. For instance, went skiing in south of france earlier this year. Took my Ixus 40 and Fuiji S5500, and left my DSLR at home. Now, I never took the ixus on the skiing trips! I took the Fuji, and used that a fair biit, but 99% of the shots were on my then Nokia N97 mini! And I was happy with them! And, the compact camera is designed to be carried with you all the time - for those grab moments! Now, the girls have the massive carpet bags
, but we don't! So, as well as your wallet, keys, mobile, (for some sillys, ipods as well!) you also have to fit in a compact camera in your pocket! Hence the compact camera is redundant for me. The better models, I agree with, such as P6000, D-Lux 4 etc. So to sum up, my X10 is my compact camera. Always there, and for the type of shots you'd take with a compact point n shoot, it delivers excellent results.
Does anyone agree with me, or was I up to late last night?
