Do any wildlife/bird photgraphers flip their photos so the subjects are facing a particular way? I heard someone saying that because we naturally read left to right that they look better if the subjects face a certain way.

I'm sure they do. At work, the wildlife calendar on the wall had a lovely shot of 2 giraffes kissing.

On closer inspection, it was one giraffe mirrored. If they will do this, they will do anything.

In many of the competitions I've entered, the judges have commented on this suggesting that animals look better if they are facing towards the right side of the picture.

Personally, it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the picture ... if it looks good, it looks good :)

I was thinking this recently and I feel that a picture looks better when the subject is looking to the right.

Don't know why though haha..

cheers for the replies guys, recently iv'e tried printing both versions, but it never made any difference to me. Each to their own I suppose.

rules are rules...the eye tells you what is good or not
the left to right thing is supported by how we read...and i think can be better utilised of photographs of the sea and land so that you dont feel you are getting lured out to the deep end of the pool

animals dont read so just appear and you take them...dont reverse the shot..the animal may have given you its best profile
