Hi,

How do I go about getting a 'pass' to get in to concerts etc to do photos for magazines and stuff? I have been asked to do it before but I wondered how to go about doing getting authorised to do it?

Any advice would be great,.

Cheers

Contact the promoter or the tour operator.
Its helpful if you are shooting for a magazine as they usually only have limited press passes

If you are shooting for a magazine get them to do it for you.

i normally contact the promoter or even one of the band themselves, but i guess working for a magazine would make it a lot easier, and maybe (as richard said) you could get them to do it for you.

Sometimes the publication will do it for you.

Your best going direct to the bands label and getting authorisation (To find: Google the bands name and there myspace/wiki profile will usually have it, go to the labels website and find a contact detail for them.). Otherwise, you can go to the promoter and they'll contact management usually the day before the gig and let you know if you've been approved.

99% of the time you're not going to be approved unless you're backed by a publication.

where are you located?? there are often free rags around the place that are looking for gig photographers. I used to do the odd shot for the leftlion....much fun

Also bands are always looking for good shots for their own promotional material. Advertise in recording studios and rock bars, and you can get a lot of experience shooting unsigned bands. I made a fortune out of that a few years ago. Then you can get introduced into larger circles, I shot at T Break at T in the Park last year just through word of mouth. They asked for me!
