What would be the best easy to carry lenses for concerts in small venues where by I could get quite near the stage
I have 7d canon body. 50 1.8 18-55 kit lens 55-250 f4-5.6 so not ideal at present . I know 24-70 be ideal any others that are quite affordable for low light? Thanks

You might get a 2nd hand 24-70mm for a good price from people with lots of money who have upgraded to the Mk. II, or look at the Sigma version for nearly half the price.

errm no! mk2 is nowhere to be seen and used mk1s now go for well over £1k. pure madness

An 85mm f1.8 could be a good option, depending on how close you actually get and how much freedom of movement you have. Sharp, wide aperture, fast focusing and not particularly expensive.

You have one of the best 50mm F1.8.

Although it won't be wide enough for many small venues. You need F2.8 or faster, personally I would go with either a Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 or a Canon 35mm F2.

Bear in mind these small venues (thinking pub/v small club) if you want to take photos you need to get to the front. Once you are there you find you are pretty much sitting on the stage...

Not really, especially as OP is not using a full frame body...

Best what? Plastic piece of crap.

Honestly it's the most over rated lens I've ever used. In low light (venues) it hunted terribly.

Sadly to the op -dark vemues and no flast means fast glass and good ISP performance. Don't ignore sigma glass like mentioned its good bang for buck.
