I have had my DSLR for 1 month now. I feel I am able to find my way round my camera a lot more and my pictures are getting better from this however, my confidence is quite low (thinking people are watching me and wondering why the hell I'm taking a photo.)

For some reason today that changed. I went to a local park and just wasn't bothered about anyone or anything. Nothing phased me.

You can see my results here

How did/do you get over the confidence issue ?? For me it just seemed to click (forgive the pun) into place.

I actually enjoyed taking about 500 photos today and cannot wait to get out and do it again.

I avoided taking pics of people for years because I thought I could never do them justice and capture a decent pic. Then one day I did a studio seminar and it changed the way I approached it. I now knew that I could!

To be honest it does not matter how you do it, just so long as you do. Long may your new found confidence be with you :)

Hi g
You're watching, they're watching - what the hell, thats what eyes are for.
Keep on clicking !
Some nice squirrel shots.

I don't yet have that confidence that you've found after just 1 month :(

I feel very self conscious, almost ashamed of my 'big' camera and lens. I would just die on the spot if someone asked me if they could take a look at what I was shooting.

I think this is why I much prefer getting up before dawn and shooting landscapes. No pesky people to get in my way! ;)

I think one of the things that helped today was that I had a couple of people asking what lens I was using and general camera chat with total strangers. Me and strangers don't usually get on, LOL.

Still feel very conscious on occasion and will go out when I know not many folk are going to be around. Feel really embarrassed about going out with my tripod especially with people around :(

I feel very self concious out and about with the gear, unless it's somewhere where my 450d and lenses ceases to look large and out of place because there are so many people about with far more pro looking kit (white lenses with red rings for instance :D) or touristy and every other person is using a camera. It doesn't help the OH pointing out I shouldn't be using it as it looks like a Pro camera (she's got some funny ideas...), she never had a problem with the Z2...

It's a shame so many people have trouble with this.. I'm surprised I ever see anyone with a camera after reading all this. :D

Never been a problem for me, and I'm generally quiet / shy by nature. I don't have a problem doing street stuff with my 10-22 or setting up with tripod and a 'big' white lens in the middle of a busy street.

Never had any bother off anyone, and had a few friendly chats along the way. Win win.

EDIT: I did get a few funny looks when I was lying on the pavement for about 20 minutes in the CBD the other day with the tripod at its lowest position, but I don't see why that would bother me.
