Hi..
I have a Canon EOS1000D with 18-55mm kit lens. Now I want to upgrade my camera. I have two options in my mind.
1) buying a Canon 55-250mm IS lens
2) buying a Nikon 3100d
please tell me which option would be better for me. I am a beginner in photography.

Why do you want to upgrade the 1000D? What cant it do that you want it to do, and what do you think the D3100 offers over the 1000D?

To me, D3100 seems like a sideways and back 2 spaces move, as the cameras are the similar spec, but you'd have to learn a new menu system and learn how to use the Nikon ergonomics and lingo.

Give the 55-250mm a try, if you still want to change should near enough get your money back, its an excellent lens for the money and reckon you would be pleased with the results

I wouldn't go for a superzoom. And I don't think you need a new body, the 1000D is perfectly fine. What do you take photos of? In what kind of conditions? I'd probably look at a good prime as the next logical step.

You've got lots to do before you upgrade your body if you've not even ventured away from the kit lens.

Biggest and bed upgrade you can do is buy better lenses suited to your style of photography.

The 55-250 is t a superzoom, it's a very good telephoto.

I have a Canon EOS 1000 D. The camera is perfectly well. Nikon has launched 3100D.
Now, is it worthy to change the 1000D & buy nikon 3100D?
or
to buy a canon 55-250mm IS lens?
I am not a professional. Photography is my hobby. I am confused.

If you're happy with the camera you have, why would you want to change? I'd say go for the new lens. It'll add to the range of things you can do, whereas I'm not convinced changing cameras will do that

Agreed. Besides, going from a 1000d to a d3100 doesn't sound like much of an upgrade. More of a step to the left.

Go for the 55-250 IS, I got one last Saturday and it's not been off since, very happy with it.

As above really, I'd go for the 55-250IS lens - what are you gaining by spending money on a new body ?

The 55-250IS is a belter of a lens, especially for the price and would fit nicely with your 18-55 kit lens...

Isnt this what you posted to begin with?!

Why would changing the body help you? You'd be in the same position just with a different body.

Ah. Now I was confused!
