Considering an iPad2

This is why.....

Lauren V (5) Macbook is dying, screen fading, DVD drive intermittant, USB connections flaky and the case is cracked.

I need to replace it, a new Macbook is beyond my price range, I can stretch to the cost of an iPad, but no more.

My question is this, how is it to live with after a few months ie battery life software reliabilty and screen readabilty in sunlight.

i generally use mine in the evenings instead of a laptop, battery life i find is good i can easily go a couple of days of medium usage between charges (obviously this will vary with load, so lots of games will make it drop).

reliability is very good, ive reset (soft reset) mine once as my facebook app stopped working correctly. that was more an app glitch than an iOS one.

screen readability is good, low light, daylight in the flat, on the train on a sunny day etc and had no major issues (other than being concious as to who im blinding with reflection :D).

Cheers neil, I would wait for the iPad 3, but it doesn't look like it's coming anytime soon and it would be way over budget anyway :)
 
Crikey... I thought I was quick on deciding on what I wanted. It's normally at least 3 days between asking the first question and buying...

:lol: at first I couldn't justify it until my Macbook died of old age :)

Get Snapseed and a camera connection kit... Brilliant combo.

I tried the iPhone version at x2 and it was like counting pixels, horrible :gag:

I've put a shortcut from safari on the home screen to facebook, works a treat :thumbs:

I got this after a recommendation on TP and it's much nicer to use than Safari.
 
I've gone back to safari, switching windows isn't too difficult and it's one less app clogging up my iPad's memory :)
 
I've noticed that when the iPad is plugged into the PC, it says its not charging, however it seems to be trickle charging :)

nothing wrong with that, just seems strange that it says it isn't when it is :)

Yeah I've spotted that, I thought it might just be the ports on the laptop but does it with everything. Maybe they just don't put out the right amount of juice to charge at full rate

Seems like it, the supplied AC adapter must put out slightly more current, to the point where the iPad says, Ahhh it's charging

Yeah i do love my ipad2 very much so, i hardly take my laptop out anymore, also i work offshore so its very handy for me to throw in a bag and not worry too much about my baggage weight.

Currently im loving, stupid zombies, angry birds and my kindle app.

Also having a load of movies on it and all my music and not to mention PDF file for my 5Dmk2 is handy if i get bored. I hear most people are ditching flash now anyways so that wont be a worry.

One thing though, what do people use to convert AVI files to ipad movie files? I used to have a really good free convertor but cant for the life of me remember what i did with it.

To charge your iPad with the USB on your PC or Laptop then you need to download the relevant drivers which boost the USB output, have a look on your motherboard manufacturers website for the correct drivers :)

You don't need to convert anymore :)

If you've got it Jailbroken, download VLC Media Player - you can just play the AVIs on the iPad.

If you haven't got it Jailbroken, download Flexplayer (free). It plays AVIs too, just not as slick as VLC.
 
What iOS are you lot running?

Jailbreak is out for iOS5 on iPad 1 now and iPad 2/iPhone 4S should be available this week.

i use avplayerhd, plays my MKVs nicely :thumbs:

running ios5, have no current need to jailbreak.

another good player is CineXplayer, available from the App Store and seems to play everything I have tried without conversion.
