Converting Digital Audio To Text

I need to record substantial information regarding some of my images and have the ability to save that information as text.

Using a digital or cassette recorder to record the information and then listening and transcribing it via the comuter keyboard is not a viable option since I am a relatively slow key-boarder. Let's face, I am a terrible key-boarder!

Could I use a digital recorder of some type (I have not purchased one yet - so I am open to all options) and then use a voice to text program such as Dragon Dictates? If not, is there any other conversion method other than the PITA manual keyboarding?

Sorry to bring you bad news, but the most reliable - and by far the quickest - way is the oldest way, transcribing. All other methods are rubbish in comparison.

If you can afford a small budget, you can get a bunch of university students to do the transcribing for you. Most of them are super quick, thanks to Chat, and most need the extra £, and a lot of them do this already.

The functionality is already built into windows XP and can be used with office, we have several people using this who have impaired mobility in their hands, to get the best you need to train the software to understand your voice (can be a pain and time consuming), more info here.

If you want to go at it yourself. Record everything digitally. There are loads of freeware applications that you can use that give you huge amount of needed controls (play, pause, control play speed, etc.) from your keybaord.

Also, it means you can easily make, and store, backups.
