Cooker Hoods & charcoal filters

Have had a look online but not found anything and the instructions don't help. My last hood was extraction with a fan thing connected to a tube (yeah, I know I am technical!). No filters on that. The new one is similar to look at inside but has an attachment to cap the fan where the tube sits,to make it recirculate. I have not used that as simply connected to existing tube. On either side there is a circular small plate size charcoal filter - is this just for recirculating and be removed for extraction or be ok with extraction?

I could do with one also, probably why the kitchen is so greasy. I don't know anything about them. :(

I replaced our old extractor to a new one last year, and like yourself connected it to the existing ventilation tube to outside. The instructions on our new unit said to remove the charcoal filters if externally vented.

Charcoal filters in if you are venting inside and remove them if you are venting outside... (y)

Thanks all, I thought that was the case but instructions not clear.
