Copying DVD problem - help needed - pweeeze

Just to confirm re copyright etc.

I produce DVDs set to music for my Brides, it's all my own work and the music is covered by a PRS Licence - so all above board :thumbs:


The problem then... one Bride has ordered 2 more copies of her Wedding DVD for family as Christmas presents, so far so good/profitable :)

My 'Master Copy' dvd works fine :)

Using Nero, which I've had for years, I made the two copies and ticked for each one to be verified once the data has been written. In both cases Nero verified the discs as ok :)

For 'Quality Control' I always run each dvd on a normal telly dvd player, and both stopped at exactly the same point about half way through :(

Now I've had issues with the odd dvd not writing propeprly, but never two at the SAME point - but just in case I copied a 3rd dvd, again Nero verified it as ok and it also stopped at exactly the same point - even played on two different dvd players :(:(:(

So now I'm totally confused as I can't believe that all 3 are 'damaged' at the same point (they are all in the last 10 of a stack of 100 and pretty much all before them worked fine), so is it Nero making an error and then lying to me about it???

Any ideas other than downloading a new dvd writing software??? :shrug:

Rather than copy, can you not write the original two more times?
 
Try writing to your hard drive then burn dvd files to disk

That's my other consideration - but it means moving 20gb of info back into the same spot on a different harddrive for ProShowGold to recognise the files, then about 20mins each for it to cut the disk

Do-able - but a right PITA

Especially when simply copying the master disk has always worked before :bang:

I've had the odd problem with DVD's running fine on one computer and then failing to read on another. Try burning the copies at a slower speed, sometimes changing from 16X to 8X or 4X gives a better "burn".

Interesting

Just tried it and they don't run at all on either of my computer's harddrives, but then nor does the master disk it seems - which is again odd as they are always cut with the 'PC Autorun' enabled :shrug:

Well despite a warning telling me it wouldn't work, it has indeed copied from the master disk to my computer and back to another dvd - it's playing now so I guess in about 10 mins I'll know it that's my solution - fingers Xd

Which is exactly why I HATE computers so much

That and they also only do it when their 'Important' sensor has kicked in - as in here when these dvds are supposed to go to the client TODAY - so of course the computer senses that and fks-up :bang::bang::bang:

UPDATE - the copy to pc and back to another dvd worked - up to the same point again

So now I'm guessing that although the master disk does indeed work properly on a telly dvd player, the pc isn't reading it all and so thinks it's copied & verified it all at the point it stops

So - as I'm also running low on sodding dvds (Sod's Law is truly alive & kicking) - I'm going for the copy all original files back and re-cut a master disk

I'm not ignoring Chappers' idea - but Explorer says the master dvd is the same size as the copies, so while a telly dvd sees something different I'm guessing the pc can only see so far & no further

Deep breath, count to ten.......................... and then smash the living daylights out of it with a sledgehammer :)

It's really frustrating trying to deal with c*** like this ,especially when you are on your own and on a deadline, you have my sympathy. If only you could get the data to me I'd try it on Roxio for you :)
 
Tearing hair out is getting ever more likely - the master disk (which worked perfectly on the telly's dvd earlier) - now doesn't work on the telly's dvd

So the ONLY thing I can do now is re-install all the original files and HOPE PSG will cut me a new one ok

Some f-ing chance today I fear :(

Beer??? - nope - Whisky/Vodka needed now :lol:

What if you just drag and drop all the VIDEO_TS content from the DVD onto your pc. You should be able to load the VIDEO_TS directory into a video viewer such as VLC media player to play it as if its a burned dvd. (avoiding Nero completely)

Alternatively you can get software called Blind Read that does a low level read of the disk and ignores read errors. Think its shareware/freeware too.
 
Thanks Justin - desparately trying to avoid ANY new programs ;)

Well chaps, the good news FINALLY is that having moved 40gb of space around I did indeed manage to open the original PSG file and cut 2 new disks, the first has just completed its test run and worked fine = ready for the client now

The 2nd is running now - so within 20 mins I should be a happy chappy again

Funnily enough, as part of my new Wedding services for 2010 the dvd is an optional extra at £145 just to put people off, or make the occasional extreme hassle worth it :D

So unless I come back here SCREAMING within 20 mins - we can consider this thread closed

I suppose you tried giving your master DVD a wee clean?
 
i would always recomend a slow burn speed even though you can bur faster you get a much more reliable burn on the slower speed. Sometimes aswell if someone has an expensive dvd player the lazer is too powerfull for copied dvd's.
 
Just wondering if you're having issues with dual-layer DVD's here?

Nero is notoriously buggy, and I've verified DVD's which have showed up as fine but they're not, and vice versa.

I use Nero, but only as the burning software behind another program. Its great for backing up DVD's.

Drop me a PM if you want to know where to download the software. Its fully legit and free, but I wouldn't like to be seen to be advocating piracy by posting the link on a forum!

I've been having issues with DL DVD's playing on set-top players due to them not recognising the disc. Have to use a program to change the disc to DVD-Rom (rather than DVD-DL) prior to burning and it tends to work after that.

Exactly.... plus single layer DVD's are loads cheaper!!:thumbs:
