Copyright Flickr?

Don't know the exact way the software does it but there does seem to be a random element to which post has the sig :)

Staff sigs seem to have different rules too :)

It is once per page except for staff

Now it's just the flickr permissions to sort - unless you want people to get a screen with "Nicki.C doestn't have anything available to you." of course...

Matt can you see my photos then on Flick R as you are "my frined"?

Just had a look - I can see the photostream, downloading is disabled, and sizes available to view are limited to under 1024px longest side.

Looks good to me. Although it looks as if your original files are only 1024 pix big? Ie if someone is your family/friend you may want to let them have the full sized file. At the moment, the large size to download isn't as big as it could be - it is your decision what you deem a necessary size for your friends and family to be able to download. 1024 would be fine for most small prints etc.

Nicki - please put some sort of watermark on your images - your birds are beautiful and definitely need protecting from theft. Even though only your friends and family can D/l, others can do screen grabs and find the coding to get at them. I would stick all those you have on there now to hidden from public as they are prone to theft as is.

This is another place where I am really struggling can I do this in Flick r or do I have to do it when I PP them.

Is it too late to add water mark now becaust it is taking me ages to figure this one out:shrug: :bang::thinking:

not at all too late!

You cant do it in Flickr.

Do you use lightroom?

Or photoshop?

Photoshop tutorials:

Fairly harsh watermarking - obtrusive.

Same thing but you can move where you would like it - eg bottom corner etc.

Simplest and easiest method. Create a brush and stamp your logo/watermark where you would like it.

You have to decide on the balance of Protection Vs Obtrusiveness (detracting from focal point of picture).

By limiting the size available for people to view at on flickr, plus a suitable watermark you will protect yourself to a certain extent. Remember though that flickr is public hosting - anything you set to public view can potentially be pinched and watermark removed. Because of this, IMO small size + prominent logo is a good recipe.

On flickr, if you have problems with people stealing images, I'd suggest also only uploading them at 640 pixels wide. That's the size they display at and flickrs "large" size won't mean people can take 1024px shots from you.

Also - just to add - if you are thinking about buying lightroom anytime soon, the Mogrify2 plugin makes adding a watermark a breeze.

:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhh I can't do this

You don't HAVE to watermark, loads of people don't - it's only if you're worried about theft.

Anyway to be honest, if it's on the web it can be stolen, and watermark or no watermark if someone wants it they will grab it. Look at all the threads on here about people using watermarked stuff on Facebook.

If you're not a pro do what you can, but I don't think it's worth losing sleep over. :)

I would like to learnhow to water mark though as it is another srting to my bow so to speak, If I watermark them then they can steal them can they remove the watermark though am I wasting my time?

Depends on their photoshop skill Nicki - what you are doing is making them more difficult to pinch. Also - you can develop is as a signature to distinguish your pics from others - in otherwords it is a good branding exercise too.

By the looks of your shots and amount, it could be worth looking at some library software like Lightroom - very handy for keeping all your shots organised, and you would still use Photoshop to edit.

I had lightroom and got rid, I have cs4 photoshop elements 7 topaz what more do I need I don't seem to be able to use the ones I have got I am not a techie and never will be but surely I must be able to do a watermark with these and batch process otherwise I chuck in the towel :baby:

Is it really worth watermarking? I'm just a hobbyist - why shouldn't I just spread the lurve

Having said that I've never encountered one of my pics published anywhere - so don't know if I'd get the hump or no?
