Hi,

Am off to Cornwall for a week from 20th June - any "locals" on here?

Being on the East Coast, am looking for some nice harbours to get some sunset pictures, i am therefore guessing somewhere on the North Coast? - as sunset will be north of west mid June?

Plan on visiting Eden, lost gardens of Heligon, was toying with Rick Steins Restaurant, but £40 for a small lobster seems steep.

Cheers..........

£7.50 for his fish and chips is worth it though

We're there this weekend. Try the Estuary Restaurant. It's run by Steins ex head chef. Same dishes for £35 for a three course meal.

Byker,

Does Mr Stein stand there and personally cook it for me? If so, I may be tempted.......:)

Might have to give that a shout......

Eden project is great for photography later on in the afternoon when many of the crowds have gone from the biomes. Just be prepared to wait around in the tropical biome for your glass to warm up and stop fogging.

Looe and Polperro are nice fishing ports for photography, but a bit touristy - would be nice at sunrise though.

Walking westwards out from the Lizard is also very pretty at sunset.

Worth it, really? i`m from cornwall and the last time i went steins i thought it was pants, plenty of other chippies better.

If ** going down as far as St Ives I would recommend the bay there consisting of st Ives , carbis bay, hayle, gwithan and godrevy. Godrevy has a light house the sun sets behind. Nice cafe that open late. St ives harbour nice too.

I don't live in Cornwall, but I do go down fairly regularly. On the north coast, as well as Padstow, you could visit Tintagel, Port Isaac and work your way down to St. Ives. All offer excellent opportunities for photography. Newquay is a little touristy too, but worth visiting.

On the south coast, I'd recommend Mousehole, St. Mawes, Mevagissey and Fowey. Many tourists come to these places and you'll probably find quieter spots in between. Looe and Polperro, as already mentioned, are really picturesque fishing villages.

I'm from bude (live there when i'm not here) and theres a lot of pretty places near but beware the weather fog can come down so you can't see much let alone photograph it :D

+1 for tintagel and boscastle hartland point is nice but its a fair ways up if your near eden. Widemouth is a huge bay if your looking for a really big picture :D

I think the basic answer is, just drive and explore. Cornwall is all beautiful :D

There are some great open beaches around Padstow. Some surfer shots at Watergate bay maybe. Bedruthin Steps can be impressive as well. You may find a car park open there , which is is really a field, but will give you access to the beach, otherwise use the NT car park ( charge for non members.). But does give good views of the rocks when the tides in and a good swell.

If you do go to Padstow try Chuffs on the Harbour for pasties, allegedly the best in Cornwall, plus the saffron buns are great as well. Fancy something cheap ( relativly) and exotic, try a deep fried Oyster at Steins chippy ( I kid you not) about £1.20. Personally I think it's a waste of a good oyster.

I'm working on assignment in Cornwall at that time. So if you see a harassed photographer with a Canon camera, that'll probably be me

Enjoy!

cheers guys for the responses - plenty of choices there - deep fried oyster - sounds plain wrong to me!!!!

will have to load up the camera bag - and go take a look - have a new Siggy 70-300 to try out as well, courtesy of ebay...........

You've really gone and started something now..........

Just come back from another couple of days on the SWCP, and there are a couple of really nice areas along there. Newquay harbour has seals in ATM (being fed by the fishermen) and the area around St. Agnes point is beautiful (unfortunately it was ******* it down with rain yesterday so no photos... but going from St. Agnes point to Porthtowen there is a really nice curve with beautiful cliffs and a couple of old mine buildings, perfect for a sunrise shoot).
