corrupted file

I've done a "defrag" on my C drive and just got the message that there is a corrupted file. It is identified as being -

C/..../Kaspersky Lab/AVP9

So its in the anti-virus software. How can I sort this?

Reinstall it and there should be a REPAIR option. If not it will mostly just overwrite itself and then download the latest virus defs again.

normally defrag prompts you to do a chkdsk for corrupt items.. probably the best bet too as itll tell you if your disk is at fault.

This doesn't seem to happen....I click analysis and it gets to 10%, and then tells me it cannot continue because of a corrupted file.

I wonder if this might explain why Lightroom is misbehaving at the moment...

As a further question, should I bother to sort this at all, as my new system is (should be) arriving tomorrow....?

Try re-install. If this doesn't work then try uninstall followed by re-install.

Although, from what you are saying about other problems, I suspect your hard drive is about to die.

If I were you, with a new system arriving tomorrow, I would be making sure that all my data is carefully backed up - before the drive dies.

click START -> RUN and type:

cmd

click OK

in the black box type:

chkdsk c: /r

press return.. if asked to schedule on next reboot do a "Y" and then reboot.

Neil, thanks for explaining this so clearly. I've done exactly as you said. I think. Should something happen?

It's a bit late now, actually, so I'll come back to it in the morning.....

I've been thinking the same myself. Fingers crossed I'll be OK till I get the new set-up working.....
