Could I go out and buy a new film camera tomorrow?

That's as in SLR, not a throwaway one time use thingy or 110 cassette if they still exist.........? ie. 35mm......... I am excluding medium format and specialist stuff.

Also I am discounting a ME super that's been sitting in the stockroom since 19??

Just wondering if anyone continues to make film bodies?

If you have deep pockets Leica still produce the M7 and MP, granted not SLRs

nikon f6 is probably the best bet, although the Eos1v was technically still in production earlier this year. Either way they are basically the same as your DSLR now, except AF is likely to have improved some what, and they shoot film

If you moved away from SLR to rangefinder you could also have to choice of 2 leica models, both costing about the same as a high end DSLR - beaten to it by Mark

This post was a bait; and i'll rise

Yes you can; if you still have the intelligence left to know where to find it

But since you ask, you obviously dont.

So stick to your digikal. Thats what you deserve.

P.S : This area is for real photographers - find the area of your own incompetence :D

Charming :naughty:

Yes, firstcall photographic :)

Do I get points for being intelligent now........no, I didn't think so ;)

This post was a bait;

I doubt it Ujjwal, but never mind.

It's a tough one trying to go and find a shop to buy a new SLR film body, but yes - there are a couple of places in Norwich (Magdalen St, Timber Hill, for example) that will take your pennies...

Um, no it wasn't actually.

I will confess, I have no desire to go and buy any film camera, it was a genuine curiousity as to whether I was able to.........

and before I asked on here, I did go and look on a few well known high street websites, all of which drew blanks.......... hence my question..........

Ujjwal - I have no idea what your problem is?

What was in the OP to elicit that sort of response

Thanks Arthur,

It was a genuine question, more of curiosity, rather than a desire to buy......

Was looking though J#####ps and a couple of others a little while ago and noticed all the secion headings were DSLR, or Digi Compacts, or whatever the new hybrid thingy is........ a compact with a changable lens....... and got me wondering........

Some history, but I think it's old history really... Lynton has about three days left before he gets given a film camera, a film, and a week to use it!

I have no problem, really.

Where exactly did you you go; looking for it. Just curious.

Fuji has been adverting a new film camera everywhere; I assume you read the mags - being a photographer and all:D

That seems a bit harsh there Ujjwal. I know we do get the odd troll over here in the film forum but this seemed like a genuine question. Maybe there was something lost in the writing but personally I always try to encourage people asking these questions, you never know who might turn to the darkside with a bit of encouragement

Well, if you're hooked on a 35mm SLR, then your choices are limited.

Robert White can sell you a brand new Voigtlander Bessa or Leica M 35mm rangefinder.

For your SLR, they also have the Nikon F6 available on special order, so you may have to wait a while. AFAIK it's not been discontinued by Nikon, who also make the FM10 (well, Cosina make it for Nikon using their tried and tested CT-1 chassis).

Like the F6, I don't think the Canon EOS 1V has been officially discontinued, though I kind of get the impression that they're running down remaining stocks and aren't making any new ones.

Sorry if thats how it seemed. If that was a genuine question; the answer is google.

But history tells me its a loaded question. Apologies if it isn't

Oh, and you can load 135 film into a Lubitel 166+, though it's primarily a 120 format camera, but it is a reflex camera :)

Anyway I would have thought the answer for Lynton would be, "it'd be pretty difficult and your ankles might hurt by the time you've trudged round all the shops!"

Tell me, does someone want to take some time off, because that kind of response to a perfectly civil question is rather like bait to us mods, and yes, we will rise to it too. Now I suggest you either offer a constructve answer ujjwaldey8165, or find somewhere else to spit your dummy!

Being a Photographer, no I don't read the mags - I used to but found they repeated drivel on a regular basis (similar to golf magazines).... ie.

Camera - get ready for summer sunsets, autumns coming, catch those autumnal moments.......

Golf - spring is here - 10 tips for the new season, Summer - how to bomb those drives........

After a frank discussion with Adam Storrey, editor of some camera mag, we agreed that i could cancel my subscription without fulfilling the whole 12 months.........

anyhow back to my question...........

Firstly I was looking through Jessops, (yes I know) and noticed that a severe lack of well (anything much really) so then Jacobs, Ffordes etc........

OK granted, that "Bob's cameras" in wherever (insert specialist place here) may still do film but just wondered really if anyone national etc did........

I.e. could I walk into Jessops tomorrow with however many £ and say "I'll have a Nikon F6 please"

Arthur - I am fine with that..........am pretty mobile now, so worst comes to the worst, I take a load of crap that is just well, crap. One request. B&W film.....

Cool - you want 400 or 100?

Yes, constructive answer : Leica. Or Fuji. Or some others adverting on various mags.

That said; isnt the question a bit loaded?

( Whats sptting the dummy BTW :D

I lurk around the F&C forum a bit and like how friendly everyone is here........until now!
Sorry, don't know the history, but surely that's in the past!

Whatever medium people use and wheather am or pro we all have one thing in common, don't we?

Calumet aren't showing stock for the Nikon F6, they were advertising the Fuji recently though I'm sure.

Oh come on I bet Lynton is having the mickey taken out of him constantly after how his accident happened!

Sorry if I've offended I was just trying to lighten the situation after Ujjwal rising up from his usual slumber!

Hey you could be me, I was locked in a Dry cleaners in Camden this morning and shouted at screamed at for nearly 2 hours by the owner!

One issue with film cameras though (well it's a biggie with me at least) is the chance to get hold of the kit you could never afford way back when - that means that the market for old kit is much better than the one for new stuff. We are lucky in that many cases these cameras were actually looked after and cherished ... meaning that though they are not new as such, they may as well be for the light usage they have had.

Jessops, probably not, though they might take your order.

However, another national chain, Jacobs, still have a 35mm SLR section on their web site with the F6 listed, together with the Vivitar 3800

Since you live in deepest darkest Norfolk, you might have to travel to Leicester or Nottingham to get to their nearest store, though I have one about ten minutes walk from where I work in London.

So was I - and he probably is... and how the hell did you get stuck in a dry cleaners ffs?

I'm glad that the worst problem I've had this week was my Perceptol going a bit bubbly

What's going on with F&C at the moment, think it's time we got out and shot some film guys, instead of sitting growling at each other via t'internet.

I have spent my last two lunch times out taking film pics, thank you. :D

...yesterday it was MF day with a Mamiya 645J and today travelling light with the XA.

Just saving up a few rolls to make it worth sending off to Peak.

Sadly, I been on the dijickal with the IR camera... but it was raining anyway :D

Hey Lynton - can I come and watch while you shoot film? (Or maybe even sneak in a pic or two of you in action!) :D:D

And my offer still stands - if you want to long term borrow one of my canon (film) bodies.

What're you doing Thursday Tim ...
