Hi all ,first post here. Have long browsed the forums, never posted here though.

Now anyways. I am 16, and i currently do Photography at A level, along with Graphics and Media. Now i originally went there to do Graphics, as i thought i would do this at Uni. But after 3 months, i have discovered i really dislike Graphics, and really like Photography. I have all but decided to quit college, and enroll in September on a BTEC National Diploma in Photography. I hate the college im at now, the people the staff etc.

So anyway , onto the camera part. This is what i need help on. I currently have a Fuji Finepix J50 8.1mp. Its a decent little camera, but i now have the cash for a Dslr :D Now I have around £300 , could stretch to £350 maybe. I feel 2nd hand is the best route to go down for me, as i will get more for my money here.

I have looked at Canon 400d, D60 which all seem to be within my price range. Are there others i should look at?

I am really interested in the Urban side of Photography. Whether this be Urbex, or Graffiti, or just pictures of the city. I am also intesteresed in Editorial and Documentary photography. I love pictures where raw emotion are captured, whether this be at the football or at a protest etc.

So i would need Lenses to cover these well, along with the camera itself.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

i would say to go to a camera shop and go and handle the and have a play for a bit, ignore what the shop people say and look yourself then go to dpreview and have a good read of there reviews.
then its just down to choice i use Canon but i like the way the feel and i like there lens's better.

that debate is only decides by you and how they feel in your hands. also try other manufacturers such as oli and sony - you never know they might just feel better in your hands.

are you planning to invest in other lenses in the future as the body itself is areletivly small cost!

yes most likely.

Hey man! cool news about your course! i am currently studying for my Degree in Photography, its a wicked course (we are down in Salisbury) and we have unbelievable resources here.

My friend Elli did a BTEC and learnt SO MUCH from it, i am sure you will find it really very interesting and stuff.

Good luck getting a camera, it really is different horses for different courses, i have a Pentax k10D which i LOVE because its so robust and reliable, really easy to use and takes lovely love photos (plus its got a bunch of weather proofing seals and stuff so it just survives everything! perfect for me!)

Be great to hear about what you get up to on your course. best of luck with it

Fi
