According to some news reports, sites like eBay may be used for just such purposes.
 
The kids have given up with film and are turning onto early digital camera's
 
It is a good time to clear out the attic if you have one or 2 collecting cobwebs. Clean boxed examples may be worth good premium.

Technically they are way behind even an average 2025 smartphone.
 
I did look at getting a newer version of our Sony RXS 100 mk1 and was surprised at how much a decent larger sensor compact is worth second hand
Still use ours and quality is definitely better than mobile phone especially when light is low
 
Such a horrible well-used plastic monstrosity. Surely no-one would?

A new OM Systems PEN camera just launched at £849 would so obviously be a better idea, never mind a used digital CSC just a few years old for rather less.

Prices on MPB are high too. There's one on there selling for over twice what I paid for one. Might be time to cash in!

I'm still fond of my old Canon a640 compact camera, and still use it. It's only a humble 10mp, but it produces good results. If I was going to post them here you wouldn't know the difference between that and a camera with a larger sensor. So it's true what they say.

I've still got the one I bought my mom when they were new, it was the only type of camera she could use, before that she had a Kodak instamatic, and yes, the photos were pretty terrible.

I've got photos printed out on A4 on my office wall, from a 5mp Kodak, 6mp Nikon D70, 10mp Nikon P7100, 10mp from my Nikon V1 and 12 mp from my D90, and some 8x10 images taken with my Z7ii, and I fail to see any difference, I'm off tomorrow to Menorca, I'm taking my Olympus E-420 10mp and 12-60 f2.8 lens, I've had enough of lugging heavy camera gear on holiday when I don't need to.

I’ve an A3 print of Petter Solberg in the fog, shot on a 300d at ISO 1600 and shot a stop underexposed, by modern standards the cleanup of the noise is terrible. But frankly, it’s a usable photo, and compared to print film, it’s high quality IMHO.

Have I missed the film camera phase then?

Was thinking of putting the Minolta SLR I have in the cupboard upstairs on eBay...

I think in fairness, part of the appeal is how smartphones do so much post processing and AI enhancement that modern phones output horrible, HDRish, smudgy characterless images… and what’s driving the sales is a nostalgia- eg the childhood photos of the people buying these was taken with those cameras, and also a boredom with those smartphone images.

That said, for that price you could get a used Canon 5D1, 2 or 3 with a 50mm lens and have some change, which obviously gives amazing images… but of course, a lot less portable.

True.

But you could just change a few settings or use a different app to get less processed output.

Even a basic old dslr is obviously the smart choice, but they may take another decade to compute that

Aha! and so starts the confusion.

I'm guessing you mean the Canon G9 and not the Panasonic G9 (Okay, the latter should probably be called the DC G9 but that's picking up the nits) :exit:
 
I can see the appeal and I still have a couple of credit card sized digitals but that price for that Canon!!!!!

It's a while since I've looked but a camping gear shop in town used to have a display cabinet full of used bits and pieces and they always had some old digitals in there. At £10-£20 I can see the appeal but at silly prices I can't.
 
It seems B&M are trying to get in on the action!

Spotted this in my local store this afternoon, I think £20 might be asking a bit much though and I expect they will be reduced after Christmas, I might pick one up then just out of curiosity...
