Creating a favicon

What is the best way to Create a favicon, I need the letters AAF to be shown, I have tried several options, but I am not getting good results?

Any pointers would be great. Oh, I was saving them as .PNG.

I usually start by making a gif in photoshop, then opening it in irfanview and saving it in the .ico format

Save as .BMP then rename to .AAF although favicons are normaly .fav on websites.

A vector drawing program is the best thing to use to create one since you can make the image large and resize it without loss, this makes the finalimage look much better.

Are you saying that you make it pixel by pixel, not buy adding text?

For a 16 x 16 one it wasn't too hard, I didn't realise you could do 64 x 64 ones now though.

I've no idea about the 64 x 64 ones, as 16 x 16 was perfect for us.
