Ok guys.
I have shot some pictures in RAW today.
I chose to mess around with one I didnt like and tried to make an HDR.

So I opened it in Digital Photo Professional and it look like this:

Picture004.jpg

I then changed the brightness to -50 and got this:

Picture004-dark.jpg

And then lastly I changed the original pictures brightness to +50 which looked like this:

Picture004-light.jpg

Is this the correct way of getting my 3 different shots to create a HDR?
If not how should I go about it?
Thank you very much
Gary

Not really Gary I'm afraid.

The ideal method is to take 3 or 5 shots auto bracketed at -2, -1, 0, +1, +2 EV and them use an HDR tool such as Photomatix or HDR within Photoshop - to tonemap them.

If you only have the single image, you need to create 2 additional files by adjusting the exposure setting (not the brightness settings). Once you have the three images, then once again use Photomatix or another HDR app to generate your tonemapped image.

If you're creating the three images from one original, then it is possible but you will be limited to the detail captured in that original image. If you use exposure bracketting in camera and take three seperate images (-2, 0, +2), then you will get the detail from all three images (hopefully)

Try using the tool palatte, use the slider on there and save it three times, or use ZoomBrowser (the other bit of free software).

Strange then? I'm running version 3.4. To be honest I don't use DPP, I the only canon software I use is ZoomBrowser and that's only to convert the RAW's, then after that it's down the usual photoshop route.

you can alter the brightness of both RAW and JPG but it's in a different window. However if you can't click on anything in the RAW window then you haven't got a RAW image and working HDR from JPGs probably isn't going to give you very good results
