Creative Commons for Flickr

I apologise if this is in the wrong section but there seems no where more appropriate to put it. Ive just opened a Flickr account and noticed the feature to protect your images. Im just starting out in photography and while i doubt anyone would want to use my pictures i was wondering if someone could explain the various options to me in laymans terms. Baring in mind that im a hobbiest who would like people to ask me for permission to use my images in the future which setting would be appropriate?

The creative commons (in its various forms) allows people to use your images without permission.

say you dont protect your images, say some multi million pound company uses one of your images in part of a massive marketing campaign and it nets them a huge amount of cash.. i know id be ****ed off if i had no control over that.

Ah Will, i see the expalantions now...... so i would want to use the dollars sign, Non Commercial. Thats what ive ticked as my default.
