Just a heads up, there's a 3 day workshop on photographic vision by David duChemin being broadcast live at CreativeLive starting from 7pm tonight and continuing tomorrow night and Sunday night.

I've read Davids books on vision and I for one am going to be watching with great interest! :D

It's FREE to watch live or you can pay for the privilege of downloading the finished recording to watch at your leisure.

About to go live in 2 mins... :D

I'm in the creativelive chat if you pop in (I'm smartshotsphoto in there).

I like David's work and style. A shame it's on so late though. I watched some of the Zack Arias one but it went on until 4-5am UK time!

That was really interesting. Thank you OP for introducing me to online lectures and this site in particular.

Glad you enjoyed it John. I watched the Zack Arias workshop too, which was awesome and this one is shaping up to be just as good. I think CreativeLive is going to be a big hit in the long term.

I actually got included in the workshop discussion tonight, David answered my question off Twitter. I was 'Mark from the UK' that asked 'Can an image that is simply aesthetically pleasing be great or does it need to 'say' something?'. Quite cool how we can get involved like that.

Just been watching day 2 of this and I'm finding it a lot more insightful and generally more interesting than the Zack Arias sessions, perhaps because it's less studio based. Never heard of him before now either!

I'm currently reading the Photographer's Eye and Perfect Exposure by Freeman and it seems to be covering a lot of similar points which is good!

Did I miss much on the first day?

The first day was just 3 hrs, it was more philosophy of what is vision. I think I am getting more out of this workshop than the Zack Arias one, probably because vision is an area I struggle with a lot more than I do with lighting. I'm pretty sorted with my tehnical, it's the philosophical areas of my photography where I am not sure where I'm going. Really enjoying this.

If anyone was watching this tonight, David actually picked one of my images to dicuss live. He said if he'd taken it he'd be very proud of it. Very cool! :D

oh come on, you can't say that and not post the image ;)

I didn't catch all the images that were shown, I caught the ironing board one (chatting to the lady who shot it and starred in it on IRC right now), and the dog with the party hat.

I was mostly just listening in the background while working.

Hah no way! Nicely done Mark, they had a lot to say about that one. :)

Remember them saying,

'If the angle was different and you could see a Costco in the background it wouldn't have the same effect.'

'Just had a message that it's a bowling green in England. So no Costcos.'

Oh really? :p

Yeah, that was funny, lol

There was no Costco though, just trees, hedges and fences. It was actually locked up so I was half hanging over the fence taking the shot.

I only caught a bit on Sat where he was dissecting his images with technical stuff. Just seemed a bit meh to me. I loved vision mongers, but he didn't acknowledge the element of luck that was in a lot of his images, as it is with a lot of photos where there are people.

I would have liked to see it, but not sure I can justify payin g for it on what I have seen.

It's on rewatch now so will have it on in the BG while i do some work

Ahhhhh I remember that one, nice once Mark. :)
